Exactly. So in other words, we are guaranteed nothing. If Boozer wants to leave, he can leave no matter how much capspace we clear. If we're going to give away "core" players for salary purposes, we have to take that risk into account, that's all.

that's my thinkin as well. And IMHO Boozer has done nothing to make me feel he wants to be here, much like the sposed lakers deal of a couple years back, he's had plent of chances to say "I want to be a Jazzman" and has not done so. The best he's done is say he can "understand" the rumors....I think he's gone and I feel the best replacement we can get is already on the team: AK, I'm not sure why people feel he can only shine as a PF on an "uptempo" team as he played well in that role with a crap team & PG already and the Jazz were about as far from "uptempo" as you could be that year...

I would get Boozer's signature on a contract before I moved anybody. Unfortunately, that would happen too late to avoid the tax next year. As soon as the ink dries it gets interesting - move AK for expiring? I think this is it for this group, this year. But regardless of trades next year, we pay tax. (Unless Camby-type bailout, I doubt it and wouldn't want it.) If Boozer moves along, money problems solved. But we're a much better team with him, than without him. But we need the other guys as insurance.

Isnt the tax not enforced until the end of that season? So couldnt we just wait till the begining or trade deadline of the 09-10 season to trade him?

But even if it is, you trade, you take salary back. Right?

I was alluding to trading him to a team with cap space.

Gotcha - the Camby method. I really don't know what the timeline would be to trade. Only have Camby to go by. On that line of thinking, who would even be available, cap-wise, to be a trade partner and would they still want two years of AK's contract?

Time to face it. AK was much better last season... but that's all what's left in his tank. Expectations about AK playing better that that should be called "fantasies" now.
His contract has marred the Jazz future ever since it was signed. I thought it was a bad call when front office did it. We were in rebuilding mode at that time, and Kirilenko was a very good player and a nice contributor, yet certainly not a potential championship leader. Numbers aren't the only thing and individual stats have never actually won games. Old story now anyway. He should be the odd man out, but his contract will continue to held him stacked in SLC... as stacked as the Jazz future....
