No Smith would have been a cornerstone player in Iavaroni's up tempo style, as would AK. The Grizz would certainly be hoping that in this scheme that the Kirilenko of old would reemerge - of course there's not guarantee that he would - and that risk is being taken at a higher salary than what was offered to Smith.

Unfortunately there's no word that any real discussions are taking place around this scenario. The only thing we've heard for sure is from the Grizz's beat writer that there are some internal and possible external talk about ZBo (puke). AK for Darko, Warrick (expiring) and Walker (not expiring, but can be cut without contractual obligation after this year) works in the trade checker. This meets the requirement of returning to Utah young, cheap talent. Yes, Utah takes a risk in assuming Darko's contract for the next couple of years, but they save over $30 million in guaranteed contract $'s to take a risk on Darko for a couple of years. They need to be sure to cut Antoine before July of 09, but that's a no-brainer. This trade allows us to successfully resign Boozer, Memo and probably two of these three players: Milsap, Brewer and Korver year after next.
