Looking ahead to 09

Notice Paul Millsap is nowhere to be found, found that interesting. Also found it interesting that he mentioned something about a contract extension with Memo. Is that only something we can do if he doesnt opt out or what?

Also noticed Chris Wilcox on the list and he would be a decent replacement for Boozer(should he leave) and to platoon with Millsap at PF.

They probably forgot Millsap existed. Talk about being underrated.
And I believe Memo will opt out. He could get more money than he's getting right now in Europe. Unless he's happy right now and just wants an extension (something like 5 years - 50 million), or if he has a terrible season, I don't see why he wouldn't opt out. I'd be pretty happy if he didn't though. It would be one less thing to woory about next offseason.
I'm not sure about signing Wilcox. I think I'd rather wait and see what AK, Memo and Sap could do at PF.
And try to sign or trade for a shoblocking center, someone like Przybilla.

Well, I'll try not to boor you with a lot of the details but the nuts and bolts of it go something like this. Contracts are structured differently. Boozer, and now DWill, have negotiated their contracts to end with player options. PO's allow a player to "opt out" of the last year of his contract and test the market so to speak by shopping his wares to the highest bidder, while the organization retains the right to pay more and for an additional year on the length of the deal.

On the other hand, Okur's contract carries an ETO not a PO. Early Termination Options allow a player the right to walk away from the final year of their contract.

Case in point...Baron Davis. He shocked everybody by exercising his ETO clause and forgoing the last year and 18 million left on his contract..........becoming an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with whomever he chose....Power move but a huge risk!

The rip is just this. He and GS were miles apart and the Warriors weren't going to offer him anywhere near the 18 mil he just turned down. Luckily the Clippers lost Brand and Maggette, which freed up enough cap space for him to land, and he jumped on it. Most other teams in the market at the time could only have offered him the Mid Level Exception which was around 6 mil a year. Which would have resulted in a pay cut of about two-thirds.

If it were me, I'd make damn sure there was someone who needed my services and was willing to pay b-4 I'd walk away from the last 9 million on my contract..... There's more but that should do it.

OK. Didn't know Memo's contract nad an ETO. I thought it was a PO.
But you don't think Memo could get that kinda money in Europe? Childress got it. I'm pretty sure he could get that kind of money.

Here is the thing...Memo has already received somewhere around 30million after taxes. Why would he move his family to Russia or Israel just to get paid? Memo is not a money hunger guy. Of course he wants to get paid and get one last contract, but I dont he goes to europe in his prime.

Well, he'd be closer to his home country and would play in a league that doesn't demand as much phisically. Aren't there any teams in Turkey that have that kind of money? If he plays in Greece, let's say, he could actually live in Turkey. I'd really like him to stay and not opt-out, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

But who is to say he wants to play at home? By all accounts Memo really likes it here. Just because they're international doesnt mean they want to go home. I think Memo stays here and only plays in europe or elsewhere when he is done being effective in the NBA.

No one in turkey has the kind of money Russia would offer and the most competitive team in the middle east is Maccabi(sp) Tel Aviv.

I'm not saying that Memo wants to go to Europe. What I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if an european team offered a nice contract to one of the best active European players and he accepted it. I really hope Memo doesn't opt out and stays, but I won't be surprised if he doesn't.
