Was your point that you are an idiot because I didn't see you specifically say that, and that's all that's been proved here. Go make a post like that in ANY team forum, and you'll get the same response. Congrats on your little "study" though...

You thought that was a study and you called me an idiot?

Generally speaking, only Raptor fans are as defensive as Jazz fans. Most of them think everyone is biased against them because they're a Canadian team and most Jazz fans think everyone is biased against them because they're from Utah. Both fanbases act like those are some huge differences, like they're actually Beijing Sharks fans or something. These same people will sometimes make outrageous statements and, when called on it, accuse those refuting their statements of being biased against them.

Or no, maybe there's an alternative: I just randomly decided to 'hate on' Utah Jazz fans today for no reason. Or because I hate Utah. Or just to rile someone up. That must be it, I couldn't have just recognized an overall attitude over the last few years.

I mean, a thread dedicated to slamming Simmons because he thinks Paul is better than Deron (complete with accusations and implications that anyone who believes this is 'on his [CP's] nuts') and was willing to defend that position using humor (he is a humorist, after all) in the face of hordes of angry Jazz fans. Seriously. Think about that.

If you don't think there is a anti-Mormon bias that directly relates into people having an anti-Utah bias than you're a complete and utter **** head.

And Bill Simmons is a very funny man and I don't take anything he says about sports seriously anyways, so this doesn't and shouldn't bother me or anyone else really..

Classy move Farm Boy. When you go around pointing fingers at other people, it doesn't take away the glarinig bullseye on your forehead. How stupid can you get? You do the same thing on the other board and take some imaginary 'high ground'. Get a clue.

Wow, guys, calm the **** down. This ain't no time to be getting all butt hurt about things. Farm Boy is welcome to his opinions. There absolutely is a bias against Mormons around the US, but if he doesn't see it that way, then more power to him.

As for Bill Simmons...I dont want to completely discredit him, because there are times when he truly does make some good points. The best way to describe him is that he has good thoughts/ideas, but lacks the perspective and overall big-picture understanding to put them in their proper place.

He does know a lot about sports. He probably watches more bball than anyone on this board (including me, and that's saying a lot), and he WRITES ABOUT SPORTS FOR A LIVING. That means he is constantly thinking about them and gathering information for potential columns. The dude knows a lot, and his opinions on Chris Paul vs. Deron Williams are 100% understandable. If I was on the outside looking in, I would say that Paul is hands-down better than DWill. As is, I still think Paul has the upper hand by a big enough margin to make it fairly clear-cut. That's no biggie. Its barely their 4th year in the league (and, really, this year doesn't really count because Deron hasn't been Deron to this point, so you could say 3 years). This saga is going to take a lot of twists and turns. The most glaring omission about this whole thing is the "big stage" test. Most of the great ones end up being defined by how they do when the lights are brightest. I have a strong premonition/intuition/wtfever-you-want-to-call-it that Deron's biggest strength is going to be his ability to rise to the moment. If that happens, than all the stats in the world aren't going to be able to earn Paul the edge in history's eyes. So let's watch it play out.

In the mean time, don't deny yourself the pleasure of reading/listening to Bill Simmons. He is the most entertaining sports personality in the business right now.

I don't want to get into this, but really guys ease up. Bill Simmons doesn't have it in for the mormons, neither does the world as a whole. There is no conspiracy, people don't like Utah, and thats cool. To be honest the 2 years I spent in Utah were horrible. Now, because I dislike Utah doesn't mean I think Mormons are evil and the people there are entirely backward, it just means IMHO I would rather live anywhere else in the world than there. People are different, someone disagrees with you no big deal.

Probably because Jazz fans are some of the most overly-defensive and paranoid sports fans on the face of the planet and they need some toughening up. There's Jazz fans out there who think that the vast majority of people actually have an anti-Utah bias. That's like having an anti-Milwaukee or anti-Kansas City bias; no one cares enough to hate them aside from serious rivals. But try convincing them that.

Um, there is an an anti-utah bias. The Jazz has had trouble getting FA's throughout their history. Which is why we must resort to making tough, disciplined players out of 2nd round picks who get passed up by everyone else. Our greatest players in history (Deron aside) were drafted in the mid-to late first round (less teams then).

And the reason Milwaukee gets no attention is because they suck, and Kansas City doesnt have a team. The Jazz have been in the playoffs for 22 of the last 25 years. Only one losing record in that span. And we cant get more than 4 games on national TV while teams like the Kings, who suck on the bottom of the jar, get more? Yeah, tell me there's no bias.

The anti-mormon bias that hurts Utah is evident in all forms of society, not just basketball. Mitt Romney lost the Republican nomination because the media focused their attacks on him and his inability to win over voters being a Mormon. HELLO? What F-ing time are we living in? We just elected the first black president, yet the media would have us believe this country is still too ignorant and bias to look past someone's differing CHRISTIAN religion? And Mitt was the most qualified man to lead us during the current economic crisis.

Now tell me there's no bias.

The country does have a Mormon bias, and locals who aren't Mormon hate hate HATE being called Mormon or being associated with these stereotypes. People do need to just let it go, no one is really thinking about it outside of here.

Exactly. No one thinks twice about it. I spent some time in SLC and I thought it was a nice place, and beautiful (well, SLC and eastward, the airport and west is gross). But to listen to a large, large number of Jazz fans here any negative (or just plain not-positive) remark about the team stems from a deep-seated anti-Utah anti-Mormon bias. That's ridiculous.

Simmons thinks Paul is better (most people do, and no, it's not because the world is against Mormons- are there any Mormons on the team anyway?) and *gasp* he's willing to defend that when confronted with legions of overzealous Jazz fans. No reason to demonize the guy, grow up.

We got pissed at Simmons because he called all Utahns mormons, and so do almost every other NBA fans. I don't care if they talk **** about mormons, I fking hate mormons. I'm sick of the assumption that every Utahn is a mormon.

I think the best example of Utah bias is the 'Boycott Sundance' nonsense due to prop 8. WTF does Sundance have to do with Mormonism?

That will make Tommy Monson so sad! A bunch of Hollywood liberals starving all the people fighting for everything they they want within Utah! Where is this coming from? Anyone with a brain would realize Sundance is 100% counter to the local political goals of the Corporation of LDS and a real benefit to progressive causes in Utah.
