If this happens then Miami probably won't be able to afford Boozer this summer or they will go a lot over the luxury tax. This is just a guess, too lazy to check their salary cap. Wait, maybe not since the Heat would be getting Marion off the books.
But O'neal, Beasly, they wouldn't even need Boozer. So it's probably between the Pistons and us. I like our chances. And it looks like Pat Riely wants space for 2010.
Discuss.

Re: Boozer to Miami no more?
If this deal goes down, you are exactly right. The Pistons could however make a good strong pitch similar to what Phoenix did several years ago to sway Raja Bell. Sometimes you just don't know how much a team likes a certain individual. If the Pistons are in love with Boozer and showed up at his home in Miami with Joe Dumars at his doorstep at 12:01 am with the max offer, the Jazz could lose him. If however, their interest is more tepid the Jazz could resign Boozer $13-$15 per. If they have no interest, the Jazz shouldn't pay more than $13M x 5.
We'll see.

Hi Sloanfeld, I don't understand your problem with MIA.
MIA never had the possibility to sign Boozer. They will be at about $52M, so no more than $9M of cap space if the salary cap is set at about $61M for next year. How can they sign Boozer with a contract starting at $9M ?
Unless they trade Blount or Haslem now for expiring contracts, they won't be able to sign Boozer. Or they will have to make a sign-and-trade with UTA.

The only way I see Boozer leaving here is by trade. If he opts out, we will make an offer and he will most likely re-sign with us. Nobody really has the dough to make a huge run at him and no team really wants to take the risk either.

Stop with the Jermaine O'Neal to Miami talk ... unless Toronto wants to pay his salary. O'Neal is on the books for this season and next at astronomical money. He is basically washed up. No way Miami takes him on. Just wishful thinking from Toronto.

Shawn Marion was inactive yesterday due to a "strained groin". This after getting 20/10 on Houston on Saturday. League offices are closed today due to the holiday so this could go down tomorrow. The trade interests me because I am interested in some of the Jazz players. Boozer is the key in all this and Miami being out of the picture makes a world of difference IMO.

I live near Miami and follow the Heat ... perhaps it is wishful thinking on my part that Riley would not make such an awful error in judgement. I just can't believe the Heat would bail Toronto out of what all their fans deem a horrible decision in acquiring J. O'Neal last year.

Gotcha. I hope Miami bails them out.
