E23,
You can look at the silver lining all you want. You can talk about the injuries and us being healthy and making a run, but regardless of who is on the floor nothing changes about the Jazz.
Surprisingly not many people complained about it but for the 323rd time in Jazz history we got burned by the Sloan leave the 3 unguarded D philosophy.
I completely 100% agree with what you're saying about rebounding. I even brought it up last yr when people wondered why we were giving up more points. Rebounding and rebounding margin are just as important if not more so than deflections.
Sure about 70% of what I said was out of frustration, but this has just been a frustrating year for me as a Jazz fan and a sports fan in general (minus Utah football).
All this attention Sloan has been getting for 20 yrs with the Jazz and 1,000 wins with a franchise, what has it gotten us? Everyone always says its wrong how the NBA gives Coaches the boot so quickly, but how many coaches get to coach for 20 yrs without winning a title in pro sports? Jeff Fisher is about the only guy I can think of.
My whole life growing up its about the system its about Jerry ball. Offensively I think it still works, I remember my HS coach always telling us of course they know what we are running, but its about execution and good execution can crack any D.
But the Jerry D philosophy does not work in the NBA anymore. The day the hand check rule was taken away was the day the sloan era of "physical D" had the proverbial nail put in its coffin.
Sure if we were 100% we would have a much better record, but we still wouldnt have the commitment to Defense that is needed from a championship team. I dont know if its the personal, I dont know if its jerry, but we have had this core of Harpring, Okur, Boozer, AK and Deron together for 4 yrs now and it doesnt seem to work.
Im not suggesting kicking Jerry to the curb, but one or the other needs to change. We need to either re-tool and reload or we need to rebuild. Either we need to build around new people (Deron and ???) or Jerry needs to step down because he isnt reaching these players. Its either they're not giving the effort or he isnt getting that effort out of them. Something has to change about this.
In evolution the strongest adapt to their environment and they survive and contend. The NBA has change drastically in the last 10 yrs and if we dont adjust and stay with our pre-historic ways of doing things defensively we are never gonna be successful or win and thats reality.

It doesn't do any good
This is factually inaccurate, my friend. It made me feel a lot better.

Re: Jazz v. Cavs 1/24/2009
Our deffense is pathetic.
We have to do something in that. Not only interior defense. Yesterday they were shooting 3 alone. Mo williams was alone in almost all his 3 (Deron?)
We have talent in offense, but with Boozer and AK we still can't win with that deffense.
sure.
I'm really focked up, because I hope big things for that season. We will be lucky if we are in playoff with that lame deffense.
