Harp has been pretty awesome lately, actually.

And to E's point about Korver: I guess I tend to think of him exclusively as an SG, rather an SF, so my opinions are based on that premise.

I'm really curious to see how they all play 10 games into the return of Boozer and Kirilenko. Most likely starting 5 is Williams, Miles, Brewer, Boozer, and Okur. Then who is the first guy off the bench? That to me is the most deadly thing about the Jazz. Sloan can instantly throw in 3 other guys and we don't lose much (in some cases gaining more with AK). This team with those three (Sap, KK, and AK) will be the most deadly bench in the league.

Thats definitely one of the better points of view I've heard in the last few months. The Jazz get injured, and then all of the sudden everyone wants to trade 4 or 5 of our players and then attack 4 or 5 more- its ridiculous. Amazing how fast everyone has forgotten what a young, inexperienced Jazz team has been able to do in the playoffs the last two years. The 2008 team that gave the Western Conference champions a run for their money is basically still on the court for us. I think a lot of us have forgotten just how deep of a team we are, and how lucky we are to have the players that we do. But of course, most of those players are trade bait to you guys anyways....

While Harpring has had some decent games lately, they have been very much short of "awesome".

For what we need and are asking him to do, I would still contend that they've been awesome.

^ Awesome in the sense that an expired jug of milk in the fridge isn't sour. Harp is getting better, but then that means he might not retire and we need cap space.

Poor Harp. The most hated man this side of Boozer.

On the retirement point, his contract wouldn't come right off the books this summer even if he did retire, would it?

Yeah, if a player retires his numbers automatically come off the books. The NBA doesn't hold it against a team to pay somebody if a player decides they want to throw in the towel.

Ah, okay. Has that changed recently? Because I recall Larry Johnson's contract being on the Knicks' cap for two years or so after he hung it up.

So I did some quick reasearch and it appears that LJ was only payed one season after he retired, and even then he only retired a month before the start of the season so maybe the Knicks agreed that if he retired they would pay him for one year instead of having him just stick around for a few extra seasons to get paid for the remainder of his contract even if he wasn't able to play.

It is at the team's discretion (or as the result of an agreement between the team and player) whether to continue to pay the player after he has retired.

So if Harp decided to retire, it would be up to the Jazz whether or not they wanted to pay him the rest of his contract.

So there you go!

Thanks for the research, sir.

So, I guess Cleveland is holding on to Snow's contract as a trade chip? A shrewd tactic on their part.

Harp's contract for next season just recently became fully guaranteed. He had a certain games played incenvtive that would trigger it, and he reached whatever number of games it was set at, apparently. Too bad, it would have been nice to be able to get him off the books.

As is, though, his contract is set up perfectly. It should expire the second that Brewer's extension kicks in, thus allowing us to simply shift Harp's money over to Ronnie. Given his lack of big time improvement this year, we might be able to get him for 6 or 7 mill a year, too. That would be huge.

I don't hate on Harp, actually I loved his game in Philly and here. He is like an old champ that can't get out of the ring though, and we need his cap space.
