If you were _____________________would you opt out?
Boozer? I think I would NOT opt out with the thinking that I either stay with Jazz and have a healthier and better free agent year. If Jazz trade him, he either plays out the year with his new team or if its a team like Detroit he negotiates a new long term contract.
Okur? I would definitely opt out to get a market value and it avoids an injury risk in the free agent year of 2010. 2010 has too many big names becoming free agents as well.
Korver? tough decision but I think I do NOT opt out. He is a wing player whom stays at 3 point line so less likely to get injured. I would hope Sloan retires and a new coach that utilizes the 3 point line would be inclined to play him more minutes than Sloan. If I think Sloan is coming back, I would likely opt out to a team where I get consisent starter minutes even if its a one year contract.
Other free agents: Millsap I think should stay as his style matches the Sloan system and I think Jazz pay him. Ronnie Price may not have other offers, but I think he can be a great 3rd guard of the bench. Collins, its either Sloan or no one. Fess is either Jazz or back to over seas. Almond is a goner and I dont blame him. He will get a shot on a team like Memphis or Oklahoma City and either become a scoring machine or be a bust. For some reason, I think he turns into a star, at least offensively. Knight is gone and out of the league.
What would you do if were the player?

Re: Would u opt out?
If I was playing for what I thought was going to be a championship contender, and thought that opting out would hurt that team, I would not do it. If the Jazz remain stagnant this offseason and don't try to fill some holes, I don't blame Booze for opting out at all. If I were any player, this would be my mindset. If I can always get the money later, I want the championship now. If I don't foresee a 'ship, I'll take the money.
I disagree that Price will not have any other offers, or that he is doomed to be a 3rd option. The argument to back that up could be the topic of an entire thread.
I do think that Almond will become a very good player elsewhere; he really has no place here, however. Maybe we'll regret failing to develop him, maybe not. We'll see what happend.

One word... NO! Quite frankly the economy sucks, the salary cap is going to drop a few million, and the teams that can pay you aren't anywhere near improving. At least the Jazz made the playoffs in the West with all the injuries. Besides none of them have really increased their value in my opinion. The Jazz did a pretty good job estimating their value and I think thats what their worth (obviously it was the sixers with Kyle Korver).

BOOZER - What I wouldn't do is to make a public dumba$$ statement and then do otherwise. I'd opt out if I'd publicly (and in a dumb manner) say so. I really believe vast majority of Jazz community just don't stand number 5 anymore.
OKUR - I'd opt out seeking 4-5 years contract; I'd prefer 45-50 millions going for sure into my bank account than only 9 and then have to pray to the gods of economics...
KORVER - Same as Okur; gimme 4 years at 24 instead of 6 and a church to pray later...

Re: Would u opt out?
I would opt in both cases. Yes the economy is poor but the new CBA coming up will likely have decreases in the too salaries and possibly limits to the guarrantees of an NBA contract. So you want as many years and as much money as you can get.

Re: Would u opt out?
Do you think Booz is honestly aware of how much dislike he has gained this past season? If I were him, I honestly wouldn't want to play somewhere where I wasn't wanted.

I don't think Boozer should opt out because alot more team will have a ton on money next year. I would take out some sort on insurance policy to protect in case of injury. Okur sould also not opt out. Korver should because he is only making around the mid level and some team will offer him a contract. It's better for Korver to opt opt and sign contract for 5 years 30 million then stay with the jazz at 2 years 10 million.

Re: Would u opt out?
Boozer--I would opt out because I WANTS me some money without having to compete with Bosh and Amare for money. I would want Areanas money, even if it meant going to a sucky team.
Okur--I would opt out even if it meant a slight pay cut next year to get a 5 year, 37.5 million dollar contract.
Korver--I would opt out to get a long term deal, even if it meant a slight pay cut. I would want about a 4 year, 20 million dollar deal.

Re: Would u opt out?
I would have my agent get a good idea what the offers would be should I opt out then decide accordingly.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Boozer is out ... will be a Piston at 5 years and $70 million.
Okur is out ... don't know where, but he'll get 4 years and $37 million
Korver stays to collect his $6 million, then becomes a regular one year $3 mill kind of bench player somewhere
Millsap stays with the JAZZ for 4 years and $28 mill

Re: Would u opt out?
Yes. There is no way anyone of these guys besides Korver could get less than 1 year at what they are getting now. They can lock up longer term deals right now.
