- Really don't think Mullens will be on board at 20; dude's big, fairly athletic, strong, have huge potential
- Guys I wouldn't draft: Gani Lawal, DeJuan Blair, Tyler Hansbrough, Austin Daye, Terrence Williams

Re: Utah Jazz--NBA Draft 2009 Watch
Oh ya that is just what we need...another player who has no heart. I think it is ridiculous to take Mullens when we don't need him. If you want another project at the center spot bring Tomic over, least he values his ability and loves what he does.
Seriously why would you ever want to draft someone who doesn't even like basketball? What a loser.

Dude you are basing your opinions off of someone else's minor opinions who in the first place has very little to back it up.
We have no idea what was going on in Ohio State, we don't know how Mullens felt about playing there, we don't know what he was like in High School either.
And as far as dismissing anyone who has had claims made against them that they don't love basketball tell you me don't want Michael Beasley or LaMarcus Aldridge on our team?
These reports of not caring about basketball are usually based on a few poor showings from young kids playing a new style of basketball. I put very little faith in how well these scouts can measure a 19 year olds heart after just a couple of 40 minute viewings.

Re: Utah Jazz--NBA Draft 2009 Watch
Ya since scouts don't know what they are talking about...either way it doesn't matter, we should not even consider taking him. We dont need another big man project unless you dump Fesenko. IF you want to take a big for a project I would rather take Kravtsov or another foreign big then Mullens. Least we could keep them over seas until we needed them.
Moving along...don't know how well you guys follow college ball or the draft but who interests you in the second round?
My list of second round interests so far
-Dionte Christmas, Paul Harris, Toney Douglas, Jonas Jerebko, Derrick Brown, Jerel McNeal, DeMarre Carroll, Taj Gibson, Lester Hudson, Jack McClinton, Slava Kravtsov.

Re: Utah Jazz--NBA Draft 2009 Watch
Christmas would be a great pick up if he falls to us, big body with good shooting off the bench would help tons.
btw, Mullens did have a poor work ethic at Ohio State but that doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't like basketball. he didn't get along too well with Thad Matta almost from get go.

Ya I am a huge fan of Christmas, he seems to be ranked pretty low in the mock drafts Ive been looking at so hopefully we have a chance at snagging him.

Dionte Christmas? Why not just hold onto Mo Almond, they are basically clones of one another. No need to use a second rounder on him.
Second rounders I am interested in are the two Huskies, AJ Price and Jeff Adrien, then Jeff Pendergraph, Josh Heytvelt, Leo Lyons, and Tyrese Rice.
The Jazz just have so many questions this off season it's hard to even suggest the Jazz take any certain position because realistically they could need someone in every position.

Probably Mo Almond hasn't shown any improvement since we drafted him. Why not pick up someone new?

They are literally the exact same player other then the fact that Almond has a better body for the SG spot.
Both seniors coming out of smaller schools with very few scoring options other then themselves. Both are toted for their complete offensive games, but mostly for their ability to shoot the ball. Both are average athletes whose teams never did a ton of winning. Neither is a great defender, have always been the go to scorer on their team and haven't learned the team game like most other players in regular college situations.
And if you look at Christmas' percentages they are hardly out of this world. He's a good college player on an average team and his stats are inflated because of it.
The Jazz already made this mistake once, I'd hate to see them make it again.

Christmas is actually a decent defender and more of a slasher than Almond. very rarely you can find an impact player in mid second round but imo Christmas has the best chance.
Pendergraph would work but there is no chance in hell Sloan and AJ Price would mesh.

AJ Price stole laptops at the dorms at UConn his freshmen season. I dont think he is a "Jazz" guy.

When I watch Christmas I see another Salim Stoudamire. I think that there will be better players there in the second round--but to be honest I have not seen much of Christmas so maybe I am dealing him short.

Salim Stoudamire shot 50% from the field and 3pt range his senior year, and is about 3-4 inches shorter. Stoudamire was able to score when given the chance in the NBA but that wasn't what the Hawks needed, so that's why he disappeared. (I expect Salim to contribute quite a bit next year with Redd coming off that ACL injury)
Christmas is nice, but he's still nothing compared to Mo Nuts, and at least Almond has shown he can score in the D-League. Whoever made that Christmas is a "decent" defender comment obviously hasn't seen him much. His team plays zone, and you can't judge how well a player defends if they play zone.
Utah needs to take Terrence Williams if he's there, if not, Danny Green has to be their next choice. Both of these guys will never be stars, but they're much more guaranteed to translate into great role players similar to Courtney Lee has for Orlando. This teams needs a perimeter defender that can spot up and knock down shots. This team simply doesn't have enough people that can knock down open jumpers and it showed in the Los Angeles series. If you have Danny Green out there with Ronnie Brewer or Kirilenko instead of them together, the pick n' roll and the set offense will be much more effective with better spacing. Utah doesn't need to draft another big, we still have Koufos. If they need another big, signing a veteran is a much better choice. But if Utah does take a big, they need someone with size/length like Pendergraph, Heytvelt, or Taj Gibson, not Hansbrough or Blair. People are going to say these guys are reaches but they're much safer picks than going for the home run with Mullens. These are the type of players that have succeeded in recent drafts like Chalmers, Lee, Mbah a Moute, Aaron Brooks, Afflalo, etc.
As for the 2nd round, I would love to see Pendergraph fall to Utah but I doubt he will.
