Its a good move. Okur is underpaid as far as centers in the league go.

I'm just pleased that it indicates that we are NOT in save-a-dollar-by-any-means-necessary mode. It's a good omen (not guarantee, just omen) for signing Millsap.

Are the Jazz the only team in the NBA not in a recession. Who owns the Jazz now? The church?

Re: Memo signs extention........
This isn't a bad move, by any stretch, but I do question it a little bit.
On one hand, the fact that its only for 2 years is a big win for the Jazz. Most mature free agents get their contracts based upon exactly how well they are playing at the time of the signing. Thus, when a guy who is 29 gets a 6 year deal averaging 15m a year, he is easily worth the 13 he is initially paid, but come 3 or 4 years later, when he's making 18m a year, he is only worth half that or so. I don't think Memo will regress at all for at least another 2 years, maybe 3. This means that the Jazz won't have to contend with his declining play while being tied down with a long term contract paying him what he was worth when he was 30.
On the other, how was market value determined here? Could he get 10m per next year? With the projections we are seeing for the salary cap, he could be in the group of second tier guys that gets squeezed out and ends up playing for a MLE type deal. What was the rush? I know you risk ticking him (and his agent) off by waiting, but frankly the Jazz seemed to be the ones in the driver's seat here.
Before the economy took a dump, I would have said this was a great move by the Jazz. Now...I have mixed feelings.
Additionally, does this screw over the development of Kosta? They are similar players. It may be the case that Kosta is a little more inside oriented than Memo, but with both of those guys on the floor at the same time you are going to have a hard time controlling the boards and might not have enough inside game to play for long stretches with that lineup.
Still, that deal is palatable. Memo is a good player in the prime of his career. His game is based upon length and shooting, the two things that age the very best of all skills. His "back problems" are laughable...he has missed a small handful of games over a two year period due to back spasms. Most players experience back spasms at some point. To say that he has "back problems" is an egregious misuse of the term. Given the circumstances, he should be very easy to move if Kosta's development forces the issue, or if the Knick pick delivers someone that makes him expendable.
An ok deal, but it could have been better.

You Memo haters are pathetic. If you have a problem with Memo "camping at the 3-point line" do you think he does that because he is lazy? Thats Sloan's game plan. Boozer would not put up the numbers he does without Memo "camping" outside and drawing the defense away from Booz. Mediocre? Do you think we'd be better with Ostertag or Bailey? Memo is the best center we have ever had with the exception of Eaton. Idiots. Thank God KOC runs this team and not you daft twits.

Hey I get plenty of hugs, thank you very much! Just because I have to pay for them doesn't mean they don't.... count.
