Box out? Anyone?

Post#1 » by Farsider322 » Thu Oct 29, 2009 11:56 am

Does Jerry SLoan know how to teach the art of boxing out on a rebound?

I was so sick and tired of watching K-Mart, Melo, and Anderson come right down the center of the lane and slam home the rebounds. This all while Booz, AK, and Memo stood flat footed and watched.
I will give Memo a pass for last night with his injuries, but it was the same last year. The Jazz don't know how to put a body on someone and box out. Booz knows how to use his body to get position on the offensive end. It isn't much different on defense. The ball goes up, you look for your opponent, and put your body between them and the hoop. Quit watching the ball, and hoping it falls into your lap.

I would be pissed off if K-Mart posed in front of me, after slamming it in my face.
Come on Jazz.....A little effort please!!!

It's an effort thing that I don't think has any real reflection on the coach.

But I agree, the Jazz looked completely uninterested in going after the ball after the shot went up. And you aren't going to go anywhere in the NBA if you don't rebound the ball.

You can add Millsap to that list.

None of our bigs have very good fundamentals IMO, none of them know how to box out and none of them know how to set a proper screen. Really pathetic to watch

This is a team that dominated the league in rebounding as recently as the 06-07 season. We have gotten progressively worse as a defensive rebounding team every year since. It is baffling. And it's not Boozer. He is among the most dominant defensive rebounders in the league. Millsap, AK and Memo are the biggest violators here.

True, there were more than a couple times last night when Sap had his man boxed out and he just let the guy go up behind him and grab the ball. Definitely not what I expected.
