Fire Sloan!

Post#1 » by JDubJazz » Wed Nov 4, 2009 4:06 am

In honor of tonights epic collapse its time for our forums favorite recurring thread: FIRE JERRY SLOAN!!!

At some point don't you have to try another tactic against Dirk than just leaving Memo on an island to guard him. Sloan is going Don Nelson on us and checking out while cashing a fat check.

That was a joke. WTF is Jerry thinking? He has been doing this for years, but 29 in one quarter with no adjustment? Unbelievable...unreal.

As much as I love Sloan this disaster officially ended my Sloan homerism. I love Sloan to death but that was one of the worse coaching performances I have ever seen. It's about time for us to move onto something new. :(

I can't believe how horrible this season is turning out to be. Can't get much lower than watching Sloan talk after the game and feeling sorry for the guy, has he finally lost it? Can't imagine he will be around for very long after he retires...basketball is the only thing the poor guy has done his entire life.

As much as I think Jerry might be a good coach in some areas, his in game coaching might be among the worse in the league. The thing is he's not getting fired and he won't quit. We're stuck with him at least until the end of the season.

As long as he leaves after this season, it's not that bad. Two lottery picks, here we come!

There is absolutely no excuse for what happened tonight. Sloan has got to go. I am so sick of this crap that I can't stand it anymore.

I never thought I'd say it, but make room for me on the Fire Sloan bandwagon as well. The game has passed him by.

He was awful tonight, no doubt. The Jazz did nothing to manage the clock, settled for contested jumpers, made 0 substitutions, didn't swtich on dirk, called no time outs and completely just watched as it went by.

Absolute and total failure.

Might have something to do with being one of the winningest coaches of all-time. Or maybe because of his two finals appearances. His Jazz team has only had one losing season.... ever. Could be his seven division titles.

If the Jazz can find a better coach than Sloan then I am all for it but who would they replace him with?

Did everyone forget that Deron Williams is the one calling most of the plays now? That could be the reason we've deviated from the pick n roll.

Rick Adelman....like I lobbied for after the Kings let him go. But no....the Jazz will let Sloan coach until he quits or dies (he wont quit) and we are stuck with him.

By the way...Sloan has had one losing season because he took over when Stock and Malone were in their primes. His rebuilding occurred when Andrei was in his prime. And he now coaches Deron Williams in his prime. Thats why he doesnt lose in the regular season. But you need to be able to asjust as a coach to win playoff series...and he cant do that.

We were the best in the world under Sloan for one year....1998. But Bavetta and the league stole that Finals from us. All in all Sloan has been a decent coach....about exactly where he should be given his strengths and weaknesses (including the no titles, no coach of the year awards.)

But make no mistake. Sloan is as much or more to blame for our woes as anyone. The guy pretty much has the final say in everything Utah Jazz related...

I honestly think Sloan doesn't run the team much anymore. This is why DWill really needs to step it up as the leader of this team. He needs to get in guys faces when things are going poorly. He needs to call a timeout himself when things are getting out of hand. He already tries to take a lot of it on himself in his playing, he just needs to show that outwardly as a team leader, THE team leader.

This is another reason I would like to see Boozer leave. This will cement Deron as the leader of this team. It has always been a question of which one was the true leader. That would solve that question unequivocally. I really with he would take that on himself more. I don't understand why he doesn't. This and his turnovers are the only things I don't like about him.

But yes, it was a pathetic show of lack of coaching. I still think Sloan is the best thing that has happened to this team, but he does have some glaring weaknesses. I just know it will be very hard to find another coach that will be as successful that wants to live in Utah. It's not as easy as it sounds. And no, we can't fire him, not after how long he has coached here. That would be an all time classless move.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they

^ thats exactly my point. When Andrei was in his prime. We had AK and.... oh wait, who else was on that team? And AK is a better player now then he was then. Sloan just utilized him perfectly. AK is a much better shooter, passer, on-ball defender, and dribbler than he was then.

Blaming Sloan for this season thus far seems like a cop-out. I'll agree that keeping Memo on Dirk was a total bone-headed move, and the Ronnie Price situation from last year was a joke, but replacing Sloan alone isn't gonna fix this team. Fix our roster first and if he can't make it work at that point then I would look at moving on.
