Who to acquire w/ Harprings expiring contract...

The recent strong play of Miles, Matthews and even Brewer (improved rebounding) leads me to desire a defensive big more than a swing man. It's a safe bet the Jazz will be trying to move Harprings contract as an expiring before the trade deadline. Thus, I am curious about the following:

1) What teams do you think are looking or based on standings will be looking to move pieces in exchange for expirings either now or prior to the feb. trade deadline?

2) Which players on those teams do you think will become available?

3) For each of those available players what combo of jazz expirings (i.e. harp & kover) would you be willing to offer?

I agree a shot blocking back up or starting center is a big need, BUT little out there to choose from. The Jazz could also use a veteran presence. The Jazz also have Korvers expiring contract to add to Harpring. I think the Jazz proved that keeping Korver is not necessarily needed. The issue I think the Jazz will have is when your trade an expiring contract prusambly for a better player (such as 2-1) then the Jazz take on a large contract which is guaranteed for several years, as there is no need for a team to trade the Jazz an expiring contract to get the same back. Possible suspects to help the Jazz:

Dalambert
Rip Hamilton
Maggette
Caron Butler
Jamison
Brand
Mcgrady

None of these help the Jazz much. I would look at hamilton maybe. I can see the Jazz doing nothing and playing it out as the Jazz are not an agressive team and would not make a move like I would and press hard for Duncan. Would the spurs take on some combination of harpring, Korver, NYK pick, Fess, and Memo probably not but would be knocking on their door.

There's no guarantee he helps this team, and he may hurt the team. If you trade for T-Mac it's to be rid of AK's contract one year early. And frankly I'm not sure it's worth it.

You would have to put Ty in there, and even then the Jazz are giving away arguably the best player in the deal (AK) and the best asset (top 10 pick) for a couple of question marks who are overpaid.

Maybe if you gave us your pick we'd consider it.

I don't see how you can argue AK being better than Deng. Its not even close this season. Throuing in Ty thomas shouldn't be a problem but would make it harder to match salaries

AK brings something to the table that almost no other player in the league does when he is on his game.

Deng has been better though you are right.

Still, no way the Jazz give up the Knicks pick plus AK for a deal like that.

Ok unless someone is willing to give up an all star caliber player no one is getting the NY pick. I am sick of these lopsided trades that have some of our important pieces (such as AK and Korver) being traded away along with the NY pick for trash. All star caliber player or a higher pick in the draft or it's a no on trading the NY pick.
