Karl Malone on guns in the NBA

This is very similar to a piece I read 4-5 years ago. Karl-language aside he makes some excellent points. I tend to lean left in my politics and favor more rather than less gun control, but Karl Malone seems like the type of NRA member I can mostly agree with.

Karmalone wrote:The big picture is that guns won't protect you. If someone really wanted to get you, they would. If you still feel you need that protection, we get paid handsomely, so get yourself a bodyguard who knows the rules and knows the laws. How about you do all of that before you even consider having a gun? For you to say you need a gun for your protection? My goodness gracious, how are you living that you need that? I don't know where all these guys grew up, or who wants to do something to them, but be honest about why you want it. If you need a gun for that, that's for all the wrong reasons and something bad will come from it.

I love Malone, but I remember when he was packing because of threats in new jersey IIRC

It's one thing to carry because of threats and in an appropriate way, but another to carry just because you are a thug. Does anyone really think Arenas took owning a gun seriously, took classes, practiced at the shooting range, knew the ins and outs of state laws and such? I'll be honest, I have a CWP, but I hardly ever carry, mostly just keep a gun in my car. I love that I have that right, but I take it extremely seriously and would never brandish my gun unless it was in the most extreme situations. You can catch some serious heat for even claiming you have one in the wrong way. His actions were nothing less than thug mentality.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Who plays a practical joke on someone with firearms?

Trust me I'm not sayin Arenas is in the right, I just found it funny that Malone(who is my fav player all time) stand was pretty much opposite of when he was a player....

Malone has matured a ton over the years, and as a fan I'm proud of that.

Nobody had a set of guns like Malone.

Malone is 46 years old, if he didn't mature yet, he's never going to.

I think he's just been involved with the NRA and such since retiring and despite their terrible politics they do promote good gun ownership practices on a local level.
