Spurs Grant Finley's Release: Should the Jazz pick him up?
He's obviously past his prime, but I don't think having a veteran presence on the team would hurt.

Like I said in the other thread the Spurs aren't tanking so the only reason he is being released is because they don't want him to play.

I'd rather the Jazz pick up a defensive two-guard. We have a better shooter in Korver, IMO.

I don't like this idea. They should stay away from Finley.

It'd be nice if we could pick up someone like Ronnie Brewer from the Grizzlies. He is a high-energy player who is a great finisher around the rim and maintains a high SPG average.

Maybe we can ask Memphis so they can release Brewer when he becomes healthy and will pick him for play-off...

You guys just dont get it do you? Let me break it down for you: Our owner, who made his money in the AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY, which sells cars also made by TOYOTA, is DEAD. (Unless you were in a hole the last 3 years, you know the auto industry and toyota in particular are not so hot right now; we're lucky to have the team in SLC).
We released Brewer to save money. Doesnt seem smart to then go sign a guy, even at the vets minimum, that is a birthday away from having nothing left in this league.

That is a little overboard. He has other car dealerships other than toyota, not to mention all the eating establishments, a bunch of the top movie theaters that are always packed, the raceway, and a bunch of property.

The Jazz are run on their own. The fact that LHM Industries makes money from fixing Toyotas may mean they are doing ok.

All of which struggle mightily when the economy sucks and people decide not to go out to eat, go to movies, or buy new toyotos. Maybe you didnt see this, but Stern announced the NBA lost $400 MILLION last year. And Utah is the smallest market in the league.
We shouldn't even be approaching the luxury tax, let alone way over the cap...
The Jazz saved nearly $6 million trading Brewer. And you guys are on here crying about a shooting guard who cannot shoot. Its unreal.

The Jazz are not subsidized by other divisions of the larger company. When they make money, which they are, they don't subsidize other parts of the larger umbrella.

Re: Spurs Grant Finley's Release: Should the Jazz pick him up?
Finley just got bought out by the Spurs per his request. He wants playing time on a contender. We still qualify as a contender even though the clippers and Kings showed otherwise. Does Finely get playing time with the Jazz? He can start at SG and provide veteran leadership which I think is needed. But wasnt Brewer traded because their were too many wing players already. If the Jazz sign him, will DWILL be upset because his little buddy, Brewer, was traded bc too many wing players then the Jazz sign another wing player?
Yes, Finley's experience makes the Jazz a more dangerous team in the playoffs. Yes, he is as old as smoke. Yes, this means less minutes for Matthews, Miles and Korver whom have all been playing just ok.
I say get a veteran in here and give Finley a shot at being the Jazz leader.
The Jazz were listed as one of his possible desitinations by ESPN Insider with the favorite being the Celtics.
Whats the alternative adding Blount or Mikki Moore to be bench players whom get no time.

no the jazz do not need another 2 guard. But they need to start Korver, but that is another thread.
I want them to pick up a center.

The Jazz also rank right near the top in attendance and season ticket sales.
To answer the question: No, the Jazz should not sign Finley.
FWIW whoever they sign won't be a significant money hit. The worst it could be is a 2-year vet's salary. Unless some player out there is demanding more than a minimum contract for the rest of the year I can't see money being a factor in this decision.

Also Utah isn't the smallest market in the league... OKC is.
