Does Kirilenko have any trade value?

Milsap's role is much more important on the team then a back up pg's ever would be. Deron is pretty healthy and he can run for most the game. With the injury concerns about Ak and Boozer, we need a good healthy bench guy. Milsap/back up sf/pf guy will get much more playing time and minutes than a back up pg will ever get behind Deron.

I am from America and I do get out much. I didn't say the economy has recovered but I do think it is on its way to recovery. I think we have seen the worst of it. The market is climbing each day. The Dow is over 11k. My company is hiring lots of people as well as a few others around town.

Most people and experts were expecting the cap to decrease from last year's figure for a second year in a row. It didn't. It didn't grow as much as it did a few years ago. The cap is directly related to incoming revenue and profits. So, if the cap is increasing, as little as it may be, that is a really good sign for the NBA. The NBA feeds off of discretionary money. That means more people are out and about spending on money that isn't normally needed. That is another sign of recovery.

I think jazzfan has it right. An expiring is a valuable commodity only if the sender is willing to add multiple year salary for a player they want to shed. I don't know if UTA is in that position. If they aren't, Kirilenko's deal has little value, since he obviously is not going to provide $17.8 million dollars worth of production.

Since you guys are talking about Prince, I'll mention a deal that came up on the Trade Board early this month, that acquires him and saves UTA money vs. the cap - at a cost.

UTA GIVES: Kirilenko (exp) + #9
UTA GETS: Prince (exp) + Gomes (partial guarantee for $1 mil) + $2.5 mil TPE + UTA pick returned #23

DET GIVES: Prince + #7
DET GETS: Al Jefferson

MIN GIVES: Al Jefferson + Gomes + cap space + #23
MIN GETS: Kirilenko (exp) + #7 + #9

This wasn't my deal, but I followed the argument for the Jazz. Prince can play with the win-now team at a cheaper price, and his nice production at the end of the season demonstrates he's recovered from injury. The Jazz clear $2.5 mil in cap space, plus Gomes partially guaranteed deal could be waived for $3.26 more, and the pick cost difference would be an additional $1.15 mil, so it's close to $7 mil in savings for the talent drop with the pick. It looks to me like this would provide enough financial strength to allow you to afford to keep Boozer and stay under the lux, and roll into next season with Boozer and Prince.

You guys know the Jazz front office better tham I do. Does this sound like a financially responsible deal they'd consider?

I don't like Prince this late in his career and I don't think that 2.5 mill (or even 5) is worth downgrading from AK to Prince, getting back a player like Gomes who is redundant with Millsap, waiving him, and loosing 14 spots in the draft. If anything the Jazz would cut Detroit out of the deal completely and get Jefferson for themselves.
