ESPN Reported This: Would we do it?
Espn is reporting that the Hornets are being offered 1 time all star point guard Devin Harris and the #3 pick. They said that the Hornets turned it down. But it got me thinking. If you were the Hornets and they offered their #27, #31, and a future protected first, should New Jersey do it? Because I am sure if NJ is willing to part with Harris & #3, they most certainly wouldn't balk at including #'s 27,31 and a future pick because I think they would feel like by landing CP3 they could lure Bosh and Lebron, or at least Boozer and Lebron. Heck, if they were that close to landing CP3 they would include everything but Lopez.
Then that made me wonder:
If we were offered that for DWill, and then Could flip the #3 for #'s 4 & 16 would it be worth giving up Dwill?
We could pick up:
Devin Harris
Derrick Favors @ 4
G. Monroe, Udoh, Patterson, Aminu, Aldrich @ 9 or 6 if we trade up with all the extra picks we had.
Paul George, Luke Babbit, Henry, Patterson @ 16
We would sell the 27th for future picks and cash or use it to move up to get Monroe
Pick BPA with #31.
I probably wouldn't do this myself, but if Favors could be the next Howard, and we could move up to get Monroe if needed or wanted with all of our picks I would have to really think about leaving the draft with an All Star Point Guard, a future All Star pair of PF/C's and Paul George.
The new owner of the Nets seems like the kind of owner who won't mind selling the house of picks he has for a super star point guard to persuade Lebron to come, because he could always buy picks later.
Harris/Perhaps a PG @ 27 or 31.
Mathews/Korver
Ak/Paul George
Millsap/Monroe
Favors/Memo
Its an interesting thought. I love Dwill. He is my favorite player by far, but this would be an interesting call to make.
Thoughts.

Not a bad idea as the Jazz need to decide now (should have done so last year) if they are going for it or rebuilding through young talent while saving money. Nets get Lebron and DWILL with Lopez they become instant contenders so they would have to take it seriously.
The Jazz are too concservative to make a large trade and are happy being eliminated in round 1 or 2 every year.

Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Re: ESPN Reported This: Would we do it?
Yeah, the Jazz are just such a status quo team. The thing that in a way intrigues me as a fan is the fact that the funnest season to watch over the last 10 years was the 41 and 41 year with a bunch of scrubs. Not that I want to miss the playoffs for too long, but seeing players develop is so much fun.
Before you all freak out about not liking the playoff runs etc. I just am realistic, and since the Pau Gasol trade the league has been so predictable. We will not contend for a Championship in any of the next 3 years and run the risk of losing Deron for nothing in 2 years if that is the case.
I would much rather do some sort of trade up to get Favors or Cousins as I see them as game changers for our franchise. If we were to do that, and retain Williams, I would much rather see that. The Jazz really need to do whatever they can to move up and nab a game changing player, and those are only had in the top 5 or 6.
I worry that without Boozer next year we won't make the playoffs, and if we do it will be a futile effort. We are just not good enough as currently constituted.
I would move heaven and earth to move up and take a Favors or Cousins and move this team significantly forward. If we can't I just might accept something like this.

That was a great season to watch, and one win away from the playoffs.....but, ultimately you have to say no. Harris is almost 27 and I don't know that he can ever be an all-star again.

Only if Dwill demands a trade.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

If Dwill demands a trade we automatically won't be able to get anywhere near that offer. The big offer comes from making a deal that shocks the team, and the league. This would possibly be a very shrewd trade for the Jazz, and the Nets.

Williams will not demand a trade; not now, not in the future. He has no need for it. He has already sent subtle signals for the right people to hear them. He's got no Stockton mindset or character, and he will be looking to go to a contender if the Jazz don't take a serious step forward the next 2 seasons.
But we alredy know this; everybody knows it.

I don't get why everyone seems to be in panic mode. Losing Boozer would not be nearly as detrimental as everyone wants to believe. Would we be worse over all without Booz? Yes, but are we a doomed team without him? Not by a long shot. And there is even a chance we could be better without Booz.

Re: ESPN Reported This: Would we do it?
It's totally reasonable to say that the Jazz are "a status quo team" and to attach negative connotations to that statement, but it's entirely another to suggest that the Jazz would be playing it too conservatively if they were to refuse to trade D-Will (arguably the league's best PG and a top ten player) for a significantly worse point guard and couple of utterly unproven prospects in a draft that isn't even all that strong.
Yes, having two lottery picks and a mid first round pick could make the Jazz a very good squad three or four years down the road. It's highly unlikely, however, that any of the players we'd get with those picks would develop in to anywhere near the caliber of player that D-Will has already proven to be and there's a good chance that such a trade wouldn't make us anything more than a middle of the road playoff team in the long run (I think Favors will be closer to Horford than Howard and I really don't see anybody who will be available at 9 or 16 as being much more than a role player).
Like jazzfan1971 said, this would be a solid option if D-Will was demanding a trade (or if we were looking to trade him for some other reason), but he isn't, so I really can't see the logic behind making this trade. If there was a truly special prospect available with the pick we were trading for, the trade would be worth considering, but I really don't think there is.

Yeah I would do it. I would LOVE to watch Harris jack up shot after shot with 6 assists a game. We would have the youngest most inexperienced team in the league led by a terrible point guard. Awesome.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Everybody knows the best way to win championships in this game is to trade away top 10 players in the league.
I'm all for this trade.

I would trade DWill to New Jersey for the three pick under these conditions:
1) the Nets agreed to take Okur's or Kirilenko's contract also ...
2) the Jazz would not have to take Harris
3) the Jazz acquired Collison and Peja's one year (the price for getting Collison's next three years for a total of $5.1 million.
The Jazz field Collison, Mathews/Miles, Kirilenko (if he stays and Okur goes), Millsap and Cousins/Fesenko. Jazz would also have the nine pick. The core of Collison, Millsap and Cousins would cost less than $13 million next year!

No **** way you trade the face of your franchise for Harris and Favors. I think your overvaluing the potential of that kid way too much. Give me Lopez instead

No way you trade Deron. You just don't do it. That said...a trade should be the target for the Jazz. If we don't get in the top 6 or 7 of this draft, I think we end up getting nothing out of this pick besides a decent 20 mpg guy. Needless to say, we need more than that. As much as Cousins scares me, I think you go after him. I don't know how we can possibly feel good about not being more active. You aren't hearing hardly anything about the Jazz being interested in moving up. To me, this is the same situation as the one we were faced with in 2005. Just outside the value dropoff and needing to make a move. In 2005, I was worried that we wouldn't get it. The Jazz proved me wrong and went out and did whatever it took to get up to #3, in position to draft either Paul or Williams. This year, it doesn't appear that they get the picture. Davis is the one guy with All-Star potential outside of the top 6, imo, and even he looks to be off the board. We should have a dedicated line to either Sacto or GS and be doing whatever it takes to get up to 5 or 6.

Re: ESPN Reported This: Would we do it?
The problem is that Sacramento and Geoffe Petrie know this too. They know the talent drops off dramatically after 5 really and there is no way they trade down from where they are at. You have to hope that a team like the Warriors feels that Ekpe Udoh is better than Monroe, or are real high on P. George or Xavier Henry and feel that it is worth taking a 3 spot drop to pick up our Memphis pick, and then pick up a player they want anyway back at 9.
At this point it is becoming very clear that my favorite Cousins will not be there at 6, and that the only way we get Monroe is to do a trade with GS. I would gladly trade the #9, Memphis Pick and if needed CJ to get him. He is the only player who has the chance to be an all star from 6-10. You have to give yourself that chance.
