Re: Rip Hamilton
If we get Rip, or someone similar to him, THEN we can go get one of those big stiffs everyone here seems to be in love with and have that actually make a difference. Until then, they would just be wasting space on the floor and a roster spot.

Re: Rip Hamilton
To play devil's advocate for a moment...
Unless we can find a taker for the last year on Memo's contract we would only have enough room to offer one max contract. Obviously our #1 target would be restricted FA Al Horrford (unless he signs an extension). Other available players are Big Baby, Perkins, Marc Gasol and a bevvy of other players, the best of them being RFA's.
Would it make sense for Utah to put themselves in a situation for one max player next off-season or to have nearly as much cap room as the Heat had this off-season by taking on Rip Hamilton's contract, which isn't fully guaranteed in the last year?
The summer of '12 we would have 15 mil in committed salaries and that is only if we offer Kosta a QO.
In this scenario let Wes walk, use the TPE on Rip, top 5 protected #1, unprotected #2 or Jonas Jerebko.

Re: Rip Hamilton
Wait, the Pistons want to give us Rip AND draft picks for nothing?
Really? What world is this?
At the very best we'll have to give a rotation guy or heavily protected first rounder for Rip. Pistons won't do it otherwise because the press would just be so bad. We'll probably also have to throw in a future second rounder as well.

Im not sure, what world are you living in? Hamilton is not in Detriot's plans. HE has 30 something mil owed to him over 3 years and we would pay Detriot to take that salary off their hands? We would set Detriot up to have big time cap space next off-season. Maybe the 1st round pick was asking much, but for Utah to take Rip's contract off Detriot's hands its going to cost something.

Re: Rip Hamilton
Pistons certainly won't give up any assets (besides maybe a 2nd rounder) to give up RIP.
Dumars would probably rather keep him on the team.
Its not like Detroit need luxury tax flexibility... At one time it looked like we might but Stuckey isn't going to get a big deal (unless he has a huge year this year). So Dumars is free to use the MLE without worrying about the tax. Prince (if kept) will likely get a deal for less than the $11 mil he's at so Detroit isn't under pressure to shed salary...
And trading RIP + assets for nothing will look really bad to the casual fans in Detroit, and with the team already not being very good having a guy like RIP around can only help to sell a few tickets.

Re: Rip Hamilton
I'm no cap expert, but using the TPE on Rip wud mean that the jazz won't have much capspace next year correct? If so I wudn't mind seeing the jazz hold onto the tpe, play this year out and develop their uoung guys. Then after using the capspace to sign FA next offseason have them use their tpe. Of course i'd like them ise the harping one sooner as it expires earlier....no use paying the tax for a team that is not a title contender this year...
