Woohoo!!! The Jazz finally acquired Mario Austin!!!

Post#1 » by Three34 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:45 pm

Ladies, gents,

I didn't see this posted anywhere, so forgive me if this is an unwelcome intrusion.

I don't think anyone noticed - I certainly didn't - but in the Carlos Boozer sign and trade, your team acquired the draft rights to Mario Austin. Specifically, the trade was Boozer and your 2011 second for Austin's rights, and Austin's rights only.

These rights don't mean a damn thing. Austin had an NBA window, but it shut a while ago; now aged 28, Austin is an unathletic 6'8-'69 slightly overweight jumpshooting power forward with bad defense. He used to be a good inside/outside scorer and could have made the Bulls team a few years ago, but it's gone now. These rights were included as a mere token gesture in the trade, since the Bulls were obligated to give up something, however meaningless it was, and we couldn't find anything more meaningless than Austin's draft rights. They will mean just as much (or just as little) as those of Peter Fehse, whom you got in the Maynor deal.

Still, though. Good to know.

I expect Austin and Feshe to dominate the NBA next season.

No, not that. Teams are always obligated to give up something in a trade, no matter how lame it is. Since we were doing you the favour of the S&T, we weren't going to give up anything of value (i.e. a pick or a player). So we gave up the least valuable thing we had.

I expect --nay, demand-- that he and Fehse both be on our summer league team next year. FRONTCOURT OF THE FUTURE.

One thing I can promise you is that Mario Austin is much, much better than Peter Fehse. So you've got that going for you, which is nice.

I think I remember this guy from the RMR. He missed like 3 wide open dunks. To bad he isn't a point guard because than the Jazz could trade him to Minnesota for something of value.

Yeah but his hair isn't as good. This is a major consideration for Utah now that Kyle Korver is gone.

Good god, did the Bulls really hate Mario that much?

Technically, the Bulls could have just included a 32-to-60-protected 2011 second round draft pick. I mean, seriously, a fat soft mush Euro like Mario? I swear to god this may just backfire in the Bulls' face when the Jazz trades Sub-Mario to Bryan Colangelo for something useful...
