What are the Utah Jazz Players doing right now?

Post#1 » by Purch » Sat Sep 18, 2010 12:28 pm

Most of the Jazz players are in town and are working out. Each morning they have a game at the practice facility. Then most of the players put in extra work in the afternoon.

Today the guys had a full 5 on 5 game. The players in today’s game including Deron, Ronnie P, Paul Millsap, Francisco Elson, Godon Hayward, Jeremy Evans, Al Jefferson, Ryan Thompson, Sundiata, Jeffers. I believe one or two more may have been there as well.

The talk amongst some of the guys was the athleticism of Jeremy Evans. They say he is an absolute pogo stick. The other thing people were mentioning was what a nice young man Evans is.

To some extent training camp already started for these guys. The coaches and team are not allowed to be involved until training camp starts.

This is an important time of year. The leadership of the team significantly impacts the quality of these workouts. In addition, the atmosphere is more relaxed and allows the players to forge the beginning of relationships.

For the new pieces of Hayward, Evans and Jefferson this is an important time to show their teammates what they are capable of doing and who they are as people.

I'm glad to know they are commited days before the trainning camp.
It's important to the team to get them together.

Is this the rule? I somehow can't grasp the logic of it.

probably to keep the teams competitively equal. teams would hear others are working out a few weeks before, so they would start a couple weeks before that. before you know it, all teams are working out all summer long together. the nbpa would have no part of that. you gotta have a set date that all teams can start at the same time. it actually makes perfect sense.

i think if i was a player already traveling across the country 9 months out of the year, very rarely at home, sacrificing my body, putting everything on the line almost every night, it would be nice to have a few months of just pickup ball or weight training in the summer.

it could be a players union rule.. *shugs* (only work if you get paid, protect players/coaches who do not want to attend, injury protection, not approved practice facility..not sheduled workout, protect from fines and suspension..could be many reasons with a union..)

I don't know how strict the rule is or to what extent it's enforced.

I've heard players working out with coaching staff before training camps begin.

For example, I believe Al Jefferson had mentioned that he had began working with the Jazz coaching staff since he moved to SLC in early August.

There's also a video on the Heat's website (http://www.nba.com/heat/video/originals/) where Lebron James was working out with coach Erik Spoelstra; the video was added 22 days ago.

Maybe the rule is more for a team to not require players to participate in trainings or workouts before camp opens unless the players want to?

Can someone explain the rule if they have more information?

Thanks!

Seriously, that is the coolest video ever! I can't believe DWill was kickin it with the locals at sand hollow, of all places! Talk about fitting in with your surroundings. I am pretty stoked about this vid. His stock just went up even higher in my book. I am afraid of heights, but I would jump off a frickin 80 foot cliff just to look cool if I were there... He did a backflip too... No doubt my fav player...

It is pretty dangerous... I don't know if it would be accepted by the Jazz management..

This is important for the team to build chemistry, specifically between Deron and Jeff. Cool that Ryan Thompson is there too.

Kind of a broad assumption. Several players aren't there. He could be feeding children at an orphanage for all you know.

I wouldn't worry too much about AK. This is a contract year for him. He needs to play well.
