Koc Comments on the Ak trade

The first part was mainly about AK. he said he could assure fans that he never made any phone calls about trading AK. He said though that they did listen to trades regarding AK. He said that AK was part of the team and the only interest they have had all summer and now into the fall is to make sure they have the best team and not trading AK.
He also talked about how in the last 48-72 hours they have had calls about other players to but the only difference is that didn't make it to the media.
He said the only difference is he said with the Jefferson trade is that the Jazz and Minnesota kept their mouths shut till the trade happened.
He also said the Jazz have not said yes to any trade involving AK.

Of course they didn't "agree" to trade Ak. The key parts of the trade (Melo's extension in New Jersey and New Jersey's PG replacement for Harris) were never "agreed" to so no trade was ever proposed. Denver was interested in AK because they viewed him as trade bait as a large expiring contract. They would be in full rebuilding mode if they move Melo and rebuilding teams need stuff like that. I never did think KOC would have initiated any of these talks since the Jazz would be a sideline player/deal facilitator rather than a "main" part in a deal like this.

Call me naive, but I struggle to believe that the Jazz would have actually made this deal. It would be a significant step back, it would actually tie our hands financially in the next couple seasons, and it would be a horrible fit roster wise. I just can't see it. If they were so desperate to avoid the luxury tax, they could have passed on the Raja Bell signing and replaced Fesenko and Watson with two first years players making the minimum. AK is a much bigger piece to the puzzle than those moves, and we're only about 3 or 4 mil over the tax.

No, I struggle to believe. AK will expire after this year. The Jazz could re-up him, maybe even get a home town discount--not likely, but possible--in return for him only delivering about 50% of the value of his latest contract, and reap a vastly reduced payroll in exchange. Trading AK now would be one of the dumbest moves ever.

I feel like I can finally breath easy. I would have been upset seeing Boris Diaw try to fill AK's shoes.

We could still trade AK, but it better result in something better than just letting him expire and resigning him for a good contract.
