Jazz ever on TV?

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Tue Oct 12, 2010 4:25 pm

Are any of the Jazz games ever on TV during this pre-season? Its frustrating not being able to watch their games. I have the NBA package and still no Jazz games in pre-season! Does anyone have a list when they will be on TV this pre-season, if at all? Any information would be appreciated!

I know the next game is on FSN (vs. the suns) I'm not sure which one the second televised game is (they are only showing 2 out of all the preseason games)

Sucks I know. Found some video of the Jazz Portland game last night (not much)

My bad you're right I thought you were talking about the game here. Hopefully someone picks it up locally down there, it's frustrating not being able to watch the game.

I don't think the Jazz made the decision lightly, and I don't think they were looking merely at the short-term. Just like the Hayward pick I think it's only fair to judge this one after two years.

Sure it sucks not to have Matthews right now, but it can suck not to have him and still be the right decision for the Jazz to have let him go.

I do think it's fair to criticize the Jazz for not attempting to lock him up sooner. Maybe that wasn't an option?

Matthews will be a toxic contract. Matching would have hurt the future books badly. There is no way he plays up to that money. Yeah, he looked good playing against us in a preseason game, but he played full minutes to balloon his stats for Portland fans to like their signing.

Portland was trying to f with our books again ala Millsap, and we let them get burned. Letting him go was the only right move, and I'm glad our office got it right.

Isn't Mathews contract 6 Million a year? I thought it was a fairly decent contract except that the signing bonus was 9 million. Anyone have the actual details on his contract?

*edit. Found it.

Wes Mathews 2010-2016 $5,765,000 $6,135,160 $6,505,320 $6,875,480 $7,245,640

Doesn't seem too bad to me. Especially if he keeps producing at the clip he has so far. GIven, that is unlikely since he's playing against he team he knows well AND it's preseason, but still he could definitely live up to that contract. However, nearly 15 million this year is ridiculous.

That seems like a really reasonable contract indeed, but I think the Jazz made the right move given the circunstances. After one year and not knowing how much Wesley would progress, it would be too risky to give him that kind of money, especially after CJ had a great playoff run and we had just drafted Hayward. This could end up being a great move for the Blazers, but IMO, keeping Matthews wouldn't make us better than we are right now with Raja and Watson. Bell can teach our young guys a few tricks and we added some veteran presence, which we were really lacking.
If Mathews starts dropping something like 16/4/4 every night with great defense, I might think things over, but right now, I'm happy with the way things turned out.

Back on topic, it seems the Jazz game won't be televised yet again. It's getting pretty annoying. Really crazy to see the team playing.

I'm surprised everyone was so attached to Matthews. He was a limited player. He fit the Jazz style perfectly, he worked hard, and that is very endearing. But I don't think he's worth more than 5M a year, and he has more than that locked up for five years to come. The length of the contract may be the worst part. I expect the forum to turn on him later when we see that he going to be overpaid until 2016.

I hope for his sake that he doesn't bounce around the league a la Banks or Hughes as teams package him up to unload his contract. I like him too much, and don;t want to see that happen.

You described perfectly why everyone was so attached to him.
