I hated it then and I hate it now.
But hating it isn't conducive to being a fan, so I try to let it go and root for the kid as much as possible. I've been surprised with his talents, particularly how efficient he seems to be and how he provides solid contributions without hurting you with mistakes for broken plays.
But I still hate it. To me, you have to find a way to make that pick pay. It was the one resource that could elevate this team from being a nice 50-win team to a true contender. I don't think Hayward does that for us. We needed someone that could make a difference. I think Ed Davis is that guy. If we drafted Davis instead and used our exception on acquiring a stud wing, I think we'd be ahead of where we are right now. I think Ed Davis has a chance to be a star in this league.
Even if we don't take Davis, I think Aldrich would have given us a dimension we haven't had here for a long time.
How will it play out? I dunno. I'm rooting for Hayward to make me eat my words and to become the swingman version of John Stockton. Don't think it will happen, though.

Yeah, I wanted Davis myself. If Davis has a better career than Hayward I'll be pretty mad.
However, if you had told me we'd get Jefferson and Hayward, I would have been estatic. So, I guess I'm pretty good.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I'm terrified that Hayward is going to end up being Morris Almond 2.0

The one saving grace you have is that it was not your own pick. It sucks alot more when teams "earn" picks and see them traded away for a player that is no longer on the team.
I would not have picked Haywood either but he is what you have. Make the best of it.

Re: Still upset over the Hayward pick?
He looks real tentative out there so far. I hope he can get that under control. He seems to have skill, so maybe he just needs to get comfortable on the court. Tonight was the first time I got to see him, and while he wasn't impressive I didn't seem to notice him getting killed out there either. Honestly, not many plays were run for him, although he didn't make much out of the few that were. I still think he can settle down and learn the offense and make a solid contribution this season, but it's not happening in the pre-season so far. Then again, all it takes is a couple of good games to get his confidence going.
