Finally, somebody who agrees with me. It was a huge, massive, monumental mistake not to sign Fess for three years six million dollar deal (2 mil per). What was the risk? I understand the luxury tax argument, but next year you can't sign Fes to this deal. If he keeps playing the way he did in preseason he will earn a Wesley Mathews type deal and the Jazz will be left holding the bag again.
The Jazz should have never lost Wesley Mathews. They should have offered a five year 25 million dollar contract on day one. He would have signed it. The Jazz just lost Fess.
For those that say Fes didn't earn that contract, I say GM's get paid to recognize potential. Signing Fes to that contract should have been easy as counting to 3.

For what it's worth I agree with both of you.
Having said that, the new CBA could work in the Jazz's favor regarding Fesenko (and I think it will make the Wesley Matthews contract look even more ridiculous).

The thing you have to ask yourself is...are we really going to find a better C for the same price or less? I'm really confident in saying we won't, I say sign him as soon as you can.

Remind me, what has he done? I'm pretty much drawing a blank, outside of some moves in the preseason, one of which was stuffed by the rim. As far as I'm concerned, he's not even a 300 lb lump of meat anymore. I still don't understand the Collins argument, Fes hasn't done any more than he did. I'm sorry, I'm just pretty pessimistic about this kid. It seems every year we are raving about him in the preseason, but then nothing happens. Elson has done more than Fes, and I'm not convinced that it will change this season or any time soon.
Also, what money did we have to spend on Matthews? Sure, if we hadn't landed AJ, he would have been a good option to pick up, but we had to fill out a roster with very limited space. We got three decent players for his cost plus some extra cash, and are in good shape for the upcoming CBA.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Fair points all, Hammer. I'm excited about Fes -- very much so -- but he has to bring it when it counts. And in retrospect, I'm starting to get over losing Matthews. We got a replacement every bit as good as him (just in the present -- Matthews obviously has plenty of room to grow to eclipse him), in addition to a serviceable big man and a veteran back-up PG (something we've all been clamoring for for years). We made out just fine.

It looks like the Blazers are not going to extend Oden. If Fes plays well and the Jazz lose him, the Jazz can pay back the Blazers by going after Oden.

For what it is going to take to pry Oden away no thank you. I don't know if that guy will ever be healthy.
