Should we trade Okur?

Post#1 » by Ming Kong! » Sat Nov 27, 2010 9:49 pm

I feel we have our starters in Jefferson and Millsap, they can give us 72+ minutes at center/power forward, out of the possible 96 minutes, what's left is 24 minutes which we could surely give to Okur, but I feel Elson/Fesenko can play the backup center minutes, and at times have helped spark comebacks. AK is a better option for the backup PF spot than Okur for his mobility, and obviously he's a better defender.

So while I can't wait to get Okur back, I think we could probably get a great player in return. Maybe a package of Okur and perhaps Hayward for someone like Igoudala?

I think it is very unlikely that the Jazz could trade Memo Okur for a player that would help us more than a healthy Memo. Memo has ZERO trade value until he comes back and proves he can still play. Until he reestablishes himself, the Jazz are better off keeping him. Plus, if he is able to return to form, he is going to open things up for Deron, Al and Sap in a big way. He's also a sneaky good rebounder, which we definitely need.

Iggy. Hm I dont think that NOW he can play as 3rd or 4th optinon, behind deron, al and sap.

He used to be a star in phily.

Maybe Jamal Crawford?

No, we can't get back enough. Memo is an unknown quantity right now.

I really don't like AK at PF at this point. I would highly prefer keeping Okur and having a good, deep frontcourt. Maybe trade Fes if possible since he would be way back there in the depth chart.

After losing both Wes and Korver, I tend to think that this team needs more shooters. Also, after watching this team struggle to rebound early in the season, I also think another good rebounder would do them a ton of good.

Memo is one of the best shooters on the team, and he is a good rebounder with some length. His under-the-basket game won't be severely affected by the injury. I have to agree with Jdub that he is going to open things up for Sap and Jefferson when he comes back. Plus, I think we need as much front court depth as possible for the playoffs. Memo could mean a lot if he's well integrated by April.

If the Jazz are going to trade him, it should be for a 2 that can shoot (not Iggy or Richardson) or a shot-blocker at the 5. The Jazz do not need any more ones, threes or fours.

I think Okur is a huge part of our team moving foward. With Watson and Price getting on the same page CJ and memo will be great fits with them off the bench with Elson and Fes taking turns taking fouls and grabbing boards!

Williams/Watson
Bell/Price/Hayward
Kirilenko/Miles
Millsap/Elson/Evans
Jefferson/Okur/Fesenko

It really is a lovely roster. I see Okur working great with the energy bench when he comes back in.

I suggested a similar trade as a possibility a couple of weeks ago. Sixers do it to get Hayward plus Memos contract alot more favorable than Iggys. I dont think the Jazz management takes this step bc of the long term nature of Iggys contract. It makes the team more athletic and I have been a little disappointed in Hayward and Im one of his huge fans out of college. I think u let Memo come back and see how he plays and the the team plays thne make the decision near the trading deadline.

The potential injuries we observed over the last few years, and his no-mobility needed shot around the three point line, I think his abilities will be needed. If Deron also thinks the same way, I doubt it would be a wise decision to also send him, without possibly getting not much value in return.

I agree that if we trade Okur we're likely going to make our team weaker in terms of shooting, but I feel we have a number of shooters still.

Look at these numbers behind the arc:

Kirilenko - .469
Williams - .359 (and has been climbing fast lately)

Miles is streaky but has put up great shooting performances and I don't feel he's really hurt us when he's stunk it up.

Millsap has been shooting great all season, though he's cooled off a bit of late.

Jefferson started slow, but has picked it up.

Elson has spectacular range.

Price and Watson started off slow, but they have been shooting really well of late, not to mention making smart decisions.

While Okur is probably our best shooter, I'm afraid that at 20mpg his shooting wont lay the same impact as a SG who can give us a solid 30mpg. Ofcourse, this would mean a decrease in minutes to AK, Miles, and Bell, and so much for Hayward and Evans. Come to think about it, it's probably best to just keep Okur, you never know when Millsap or Jefferson might go down for a few games, or even Elson, cause I can't honestly say I feel comfortable yet with Fes getting major minutes, nor would I want Elson to change his role.

I guess we need to see how Okur performs, and more importantly how we play before we do anything.
