It depends whether pick is going to land. We'll see.

Yeah, if it's the sixth pick I'd say go for it but no if we win the lottery. I like Dragic and I could see Martin destroying the other teams' defense coming off screens either for an open shot or to open things up for our bigs if they start to overhelp on the screens.

I wouldn't trade the pick but I might be willing to throw in some players instead.

The salaries don't work anyway.

Can't trade players 'til after the lockout right?

Why not? Doesn't the pick hold like $2,000,000 in monetary value? If it's draft day trade, wont the salaries match up then? The difference in salaries is small. I'm not sure I love this trade anyways, I think I'll rather have a Hayward/Jimmer/Bell and Harris/Kemba/Watson SG/PG rotation than take on Martin who is so injury prone, and Dragic as a starting PG? Nah no thanks.

I think you can trade anyone who doesn't have an expiring deal as soon as the playoffs are over. I've actually been trying to find the exact wording in the CBA, but I'm fairly certain you can do this -- otherwise teams could never trade players on draft day, and that happens all the time.

A Team cannot trade any player after the NBA trade deadline occurring in the last Season of the player’s Contract, or after the NBA trade deadline occurring in any Season that could be the last Season of the player’s Contract based upon the exercise or non-exercise of an Option or Early Termination Option.

So the Jazz couldn't trade AK or C.J. Miles on draft day but they could trade Devin Harris.

I thought this year teams weren't going to be allowed to trade players until after the new CBA. If it is possible, then that would really open this draft up.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's anything prohibiting it except the uncertainty of the lockout and the new CBA.

Unlike the NFL, the NBA's CBA expires after the draft.

When the trading deadline has passed. Teams are free to make trades again once their season has ended, but cannot trade players whose contracts are ending or could end due to an option or ETO.

So since the Jazz and Rockets will miss the playoffs, I suppose they could make a trade at the end of this month if they really wanted to.

Like D15 said, him only being under contract for 2 years is a big minus, in all likelihood our rookies this year aren't going to be capable of winning lots of games 2 years from now. We are rebuilding right now, we need to be patient with that process and build a contender similar to the way OKC and Portland have done.

We have 2 very good pieces already on the team in Hayward and Favors, we have several draft picks in the next 2 years, and we'll have some money to spend in a couple of years with AK's and Memo's contracts off the books. No reason to turn ourselves into a 7th or 8th seeded playoff team by adding just enough pieces to make the post season, but never enough to get anywhere. We need to add another good young big, another good wing player, and maybe a 6th man. We probably won't make the playoffs next year meaning we might have another 2 lotto picks next year, plus our two this year, which gives us a good chance to get good young talent.

Or trade for more experienced talent. At some point you don't want a roster full of guys with 1-3 years experience.

Right, like OKC did to get Perkins. I think they are contenders now. But for the Jazz, that step is down the road a bit. Probably between Favors and Haywards 2nd and 3rd years or 3rd and 4th years. At that point I can see us being contenders and making a move for whatever we need.

I like Drajic. He and Harris are probably a wash, but Martin's injury history makes me opt towards taking a chance on the pick instead.

Harris is better than Drajic.

Maybe if we got a better PG out of the deal I would be happy, but Dragic is severely overrated because of his good games last in the season and in the playoffs last year in Phoenix.

I don't know how Dragic is overrated. It's very rare I hear anyone mention him at all in any context.

Harris is better than Drajic.

For now, of course. Harris is better at driving and drawing fouls. He's quicker and a better scorer. A better defender. Those might be enough reasons alone to pick Harris over Drajic for most teams, but Drajic is a pretty crafty passer, more unselfish and a better outside shooter. He's had an off year, but long term he could be a better fit for the Jazz than Harris because the Jazz already have plenty of scorers.

You guys are starting to sound like fans from all these other teams that and its end up in the lottery every single year and keep hoping the lottery picks turn into something. When you have all this youth on your team you get no where its highly unlikely we land a player like James or Durrant.
