Re: Derrick Favors Upside
Rich man's Dale Davis anyone? I thought I would look up their rookie numbers and they are almost identical. Favors is younger than Dale was as a rookie, so I hope that gives him more upside.

From Locke's website:
At 19, Derrick Favors is wrapping up his rookie season. A tumultous season highlighted by a trade. Neither in New Jersey nor in Utah did either team let Favors just go and play. Therefore, the way to evaluate Favors in his per minute play. I ran a search of 20 years worth of rookies how were productive in their rookie year. The players all had to be 6'9 to 7'2 and average 10 pts and 5 rebounds a game as a rookie.
As you look at the charts below you will see he is behind a bit offensively. This is what everyone said about his game, but look at the players that he is better than. The line marks where Favors would sit on the chart. Some of the players below him turned into very nice offensive players.

The next chart is Favors rebounds per minute. Favors is really special in this category. The yellow highlight is all the players who Favors has a better rebounding rate.

Finally, is Favors blocked shot ability which is really special. This shows his athleticsm and instincts Favors exhibits. The Blue line shows where Favors ranks.

More from Locke:
The players that I and other NBA people most often compare Derrick Favors to are Amare Stoudamire and Antonio McDyess.
Here are the comparisions from their rookie years per 36 minutes. Favors is not as offensively inclined yet as these two, but the other numbers are similar. Unfortunately, Favors minutes are a great deal lower.

Favors is in the ball park and is year or two younger than these players.
Now what do we have to look forward to. Here are the first three years of both Amare and McDyess careers. I am not sure the circumstances but McDyess got traded between his second and third year and then returned to Denver for the years following.

That is an all-star progression by Amare. Wow what year to year jumps.
Here is McDyess who seemed to slow after his second year and stagnate.
