Kanter = Okur 2.0?

Post#1 » by superd » Mon Jun 20, 2011 3:19 am

When Okur was healthy I thought he was a solid rebounder, adequate defense, and could make an outside shot.

Kanter seems to have the same traits without the long range 3. Does that make him worth the #3 pick?
We just want to replace Okur?

I do have to say Kanter is much younger than the Okur we signed as a free agent.

Some people hope that he can be a legit back to the basket center. One that can destroy teams in the post and dominate on the boards. All this while at least playing acceptable defense. To keep it short, I'm not convinced at all on any of that and would much prefer to pass on him. But we will see what KOC does.

Because he's 19 and Okur is 32.

If he's a slightly better and healthy version of Mehmet, I would be pretty happy, maybe that's just me.

Kanter is the only top 3 pick that I feel has All Star potential in this draft. Just like Chad Ford said the other day, that had Derrick Favors returned for his Soph Season he would "hands down be the #1 pick!", I feel that if Kanter had gone to Kentucky he would be the hands down #1 pick.

I also don't see so much in Irving or Knight that makes me think they will become allstar pg's in this league. Since that is the case I believe we should look strongly at Reggie Jackson at #12, or Fredette. I have a feeling Fredette is so driven that he will quickly mold into the passing player that he needs to be to be successful at this level. While Jackson could be the steal of the draft. Ford says that someone has given him a promise and that is why he hasn't worked out with anybody... I would not be surprised at all if it was the Jazz and their plan is to take Kanter/Williams at 3 and him with our second pick. In fact, if the Jazz like Williams more, I wouldn't be surprised with a simple 3/12 swap & Raja to Minny for 2/20 and net us Williams/Jackson.

However, I am getting kind of excited about the prospect of Kanter. What is great about Kanter, is that if he becomes the player we need at Center it allows us to showcase Al Jefferson and maximize his trade value and then send Jefferson out at the draft next year to move up and get Harrison Barnes, or to make any other trade for an established wing.

I seriously do not understand. Kanter's game doesn't seem to be at all like Okur's. Am I missing something?

Also, Reggie Jackson was not promised jack from the Jazz. It was the heat. He may become a steal at pick 30 or whatever; doesn't mean he's a good pick at 12.

They're both from Tukey, that means they're the same player.

Wow, too many "ifs" in that one.

I like Kanter from the small amount of video I've seen he looks like a slower Blake Griffin more than Okur. Hard to tell unless he is going against a decent defense to see how good he is. The old phrase "you can't teach hight is also applied to playing against it. Wait until he has to get a shot over Duncan or Binum or Gasol and then we will see how good he is.

Yes, that is true. I would dare say that Kanter is more athletic now than Okur every was.
