Here is a good article that sums it up.

I do believe its Hunters fault. He is just trying to get one last good pay day just like Raja did with the Jazz. It doesnt matter who you have to kick down to get what you want, how Bell blew of Bryant. It all comes down to straight up greed on every ones part. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPEN. The players should have voted it down with amendments made on terms to accept the deal and not dismember your union.

The Raja Bell comparison seems off. Raja turned down more money to come play for a team he had faith in and had fond memories of. You are definitely right about Hunter's moves being entirely greed based, Raja's weren't though.

Raja's was more of a money thing then what he wants fans to believe he is just well spoken and has better PR skills then other greedy players. Think about it, you just come off a major surgery and on the ropes of your career the Lakers can only offer you 1.2 mil and the Jazz can offer you 3 mil a year. I am not saying its a messed up he did it for the money but it shows you where there heads are. MONEY MONEY MONEY.

I think they're going all in on the belief that the owners are bluffing about being done negotiating. If they really believed it would play out in the courts, I don't think they would've dissolved the union in a way that they're still acting as a collective with the same leader. That alone tells me they don't think they would win in court anyway, but they believe the owners aren't really willing to take it that far.

Having said all that, I'm just like you in the fact that the more I read, the more unsure I am about all this.
