STAND?

Post#1 » by Wolverine » Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:51 am

Right now I would be happy if we didn't trade. In a condensed season 4 bigs is handy & Kanter imo is not quite ready for big minutes. Al is passing more. Hayward is picking up for Harris lack of playmaking which is improving.Howard looks good. I even see a role for Raja albeit a lesser one than we are seeing.Increase Burks minutes. That leaves Evans & CJ as the odd men out. Love Evans though. Bury CJ at the end of the bench

I like our big man rotation, no reason to play with it too much.

But I'd move one of CJ or Bell, open up 20 minutes for Burks, and if you need help at the 2 Harris can play there with Watson or Tinsley at PG.

We can't extend Howard, you have to be signed for at least a three year contract to be extended (or, at least that's close to what it was in the last CBA). We'll have his bird rights anyway. I'd like to see CJ moved somewhere where he can be more effective - the Clippers would be a nice spot - and Jeremy Evans playing more. That's about it, though, I am liking what we have so far.

My understanding is that someone has to have been signed to a three-year contract, or three consecutive one-year contracts, to be eligible for bird rights.

I wouldnt make a move other than dealing Miles for a future #2 or maybe trade him with Bell for a veteran that could help us like Grant Hill or Barbosa.

Basically, no trade or a minor deal that helps us with a veteran off our bench which moves Howard to the starting lineup.

I was expecting one of Millsap or Jefferson to be traded at the beginning of the season.

I don't see that happening anymore, and I'm okay with it.

Yes, I'm sure we are standing pat right now. However, a lot can change in the next two months. If we are not doing well, then I think people might be surprised by Utah's activity. I think Al, CJ, Raja and Howard are all candidates to be moved if Utah is struggling.

If we are doing well and find ourselves in the playoff hunt, I don't think we'll go out of our way to disrupt the team. Still, something could always fall into our lap, depending on how things shapeup for other teams. Taking the Memo TPE into consideration, I wouldn't be surprised to see at least some kind of move by March 15, even if it's taking a big expiring off someone's hands in order to acquire a pick, or to faciltate a trade for someone else.

Al is doing a very good job of improving his trade value.

You can't stand pat if a great offer surfaces by the deadline. If the Jazz get a shot at an elite PG, such as Westbrook, they have to pull the trigger.

Although I've been pleased with the team so far for the most part, we're not gonna be contenders just by keeping this team together and frankly we won't have the money for it when their contracts are up. IMO we need to trade one of our bigs (Al or Sap) for a young PG and let him develop with the rest of our players. We'll lose a few more games, but between making the playoffs as a 7 or 8th seed and getting a lottery pick while adding an important piece in a position of need, I'll take the second option. Plus we might have enough cap space to sign a good player in a couple of years. We can use our pieces to try and become a contender down the road or just be happy to be a 1st round exit team for 3 or 4 years.
We should wait a little bit more to pull the trigger on any trade, but I think if we have the opportunity to land a young player who can be a difference maker, we should do it.

CJ is the only one I'd like to see traded at this point..... My problem with Bell was he wasn't making any shots, now that he is I have no problem with him being on the Jazz......

CJ on the other hand is still CJ...... Even if he's making shots he's liable to screw a lot of plays up......
