Ty and Jerry - Differences

Post#1 » by schneiderjazz » Mon Jan 16, 2012 4:11 pm

Just wanted to make a thread to discuss some of the differences I've been noticing between Ty and Jerry.

- I'm not going crazy over timeouts. I barely notice them. Jerry always drove me crazy waiting too much to call timeouts IMO.
- We're actually taking advantage of mismatches. Denver went small and Sap abused them over and over. I had the impression we could take advantage of mismatches a lot more when Jerry was coaching.
- Ty keeps guys that are doing well in the game. Jerry never changed his rotations much.

Of course, everything seems great now. If we start losing, some of the things Ty does will start driving us crazy. So, what other differences have you guys noticed?

1) Im not Locke and havent really looked at the numbers, but it seems like our defense is better.
2) He has the guys playing together much better than some of Sloans prior teams. Chemistry is much better so far.
3) He is constantly standing on the sideline.

Ty is playing all the people who deserve it.
With Jerry Burks would not been playing. Kanter would play less.
Right now we have 10 players ready to play and they think they can play and they are important.

I think we have a better more balanced roster without the big "star" to demand ANYTHING. If anything, this team is like the 03-04 Jazz but with BUTTLOADS MORE TALENT. Thinking like that, imagine how Jerry could have this team playing. With that said, I'm liking me some Ty right now. I thought he choked the LAL game away (and still do), but we still were in a position to win that game, that and still a little too much Raja, but he hasn't hurt us as much lately so I'm all good right now.

This is how I feel too. Corbin is a good coach, but he has a long way to even be mentioned in the same breath as Jerry Sloan.

The Jazz are chasing guys off the three-point line a lot more than I ever remember them doing under Sloan. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but is it possible Corbin is buying into some advanced metrics such as expected FG% based on shot-location?

Much better defense!! Otherwise, pretty similar. Corbin has done a GREAT job with this team.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

He isn't crushing players for making mistakes. Burks has made some awful plays this year and Corbin pulls him aside and talks to him, Sloan didn't do as much one on one stuff like that.

With that said, he is crushing CJ when he makes mistakes, and rightfully so.
