Do we have a future all star?
We have a nice youth movement going. But I'm not sure we have much more than a collection of good role players as we move forward.
Compare our youth movement to OKC's. We clearly don't have anything like Durant. I'm not sure we have anything that will become like Westbrook. We might have a few Hardens and Ibakas in development, but that's not enough to build a franchise.
We need to either (i) make a move for a real star, sacrificing part of the youth movement, or else we need to (ii) stock pile more picks and start tanking. I suspect some of you would like to (iii) wait and see if Favors or Kanter has what it takes. That looks like a bad bet right now.

In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

It doesn't look good.
Then again, for this draft, there's only one guy who looks like a likely all-star. 2013 has a couple more potential stars so maybe the Jazz could tank for that, but 2013 is a make-or-break year for Favors and Hayward so the team could probably only end up in the position for a high 2013 pick if Favors and or Hayward bust miserably which wouldn't be good.

Oh brother. Knee jerk much?
Kanter looks great in limited minutes given his lack of competitive experience coming into the year. His ceiling is higher than than Kevin Love's in that he plays great defense, and he appears likely to approach that potential. Good chance he'll be a multiple time all-star.
Favors has tremendous potential as well, though more work to do. Jermain O'Neal took five or six years to develop, but eventually emerged as a perennial all-star. Favors could certainly take the same path-- he has the physical tools, has the work ethic and commitment to improve, and has sufficient intelligence plus a good dose of humility. Giving up on his development now could be exactly what keeps Utah from having a dominant player in the near future.
Hayward will be fine, though no one ever presumed he would be an all-star. He will, however, be a team leader who contributes to team wins in multiple ways on a nightly basis. We have yet to really grasp what we have in Burks, but I like what I've seen so far.
Don't discount the fact that this young team had a lot of new faces this year with no training camp to gel, as well as a new coach with an entirely new defensive philosophy. What they have done thus far is sort of amazing in that context. If anything, some of the vets are what is keeping the youth from developing at a faster rate.
You move Big Al, Harris, Bell and CJ. Make smart moves and the Jazz can get some really good assets. We could possibly move into the top 5 in the draft and grab that future star. But don't move a player who may still develop into a dominating presence on the floor in a couple of seasons. That would be stupid.

I think we have 4 fringe Allstar players in our 4 lottery players. That is good enough if we can get that Allstar PG somehow.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Look at Indiana. They have 5 good starters. Several are borderline all-starts. It could be a good model for out team going forward.

I dont think we do have an allstar.
I believe that Millsap is just Harpring level talent and drive, that has the green light to take more shots.
And finishing just out of the playoffs every year is not gonna get us one.

Someone on this team will make an all-star team. Perennial all-star? No.

Comparing to OKC isn't fair to any team. How many teams in the league have Kevin Durrant caliber talent?

Re: Do we have a future all star?
Kanter or Favors will have an all-star appearance between them. I'm actually leaning toward Kanter because I think he will fill up box scores going forward.
But look at Denver, no all-stars, incredible team. Nene is a fringe star, similar to how I think favors and Kanter will be, and they can contend in the right situations.

I'm not expecting us to match them one for one. I'm just wondering if we have anything to compare to their third guy, and I'm not very confident we do right now.

Wow! Pretty impatient aren't we. Rome wasn't built in a day. There's more talent here than most other teams in the NBA and both Kanter and Favors will be top players in this league.

Re: Do we have a future all star?
Too early to call, obviously. Kanter and Favors could both be All Stars. Burks might be one. Hayward has a long shot, but its still there. Its also possible that Millsap will continue to play like he has this year. And that would make him a perennial top 15 player.
