Clarification on GSW pick

Post#1 » by DiscoLives4ever » Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:26 pm

Does the pick transfer to us before or after the draft lottery?

For instance, if they finish with the 8th-worst record but win the lottery to move up to the number 1 pick, do we get it this year?

Nope - the pick is allocated post-lottery drawing. If they finish in the top 7 after the lottery drawing, they keep the pick. We need to be pulling for one of the 8-14 teams to move ahead of GSW in the drawing, not likely but not impossible..

Pick is top 7 protected and decided after the lottery, so if the GSW finish 6-7 they keep it unless one of the better record teams get lucky in lottery and get into top 3 pushing GSW pick back to 8th pick (30% chance).

If GSW end up winning 1-2 more games then GSW end up 8-9 then Jazz get pick unless GSW win the lottery and get into top 3. Best the pick can be for UTah is 8th pick.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

Golden State has to win for any chance at them being 8. If they lose out they are tied for 6/7 as the 3 way tie for 6/7/8 has two teams that play later. The lotto would then be the only hope.

GS is 8th right now, with very few days to go. NJ and Toronto are on mini losing streaks too. If GS wins on more game, it'll almost surely be our pick. Also like sendai said, a team could leap frog GS in the lottery.

NJ and Toronto play each other. One of them is obligated to win.

I actually thought GSW had a chance to win last night without Kobe so I tuned in, and saw that they are in complete tank mode, because they are now sitting David Lee.. They actually were playing fairly well in semi-tank mode while just sitting Curry but frustratingly for them won a couple of games. They will lose out.

My hope now is that they will tie for 6/7th and lose the coin flip, and then someone like Detroit jumps into the top 3 to push them back to 8.

Our only hope now is for them to beat NOLA and then win the flip for 7/8 with the winner of Tor/Nj's game.

2012 first round draft pick from Golden State
Golden State's own 2012 1st round pick to Utah via New Jersey (top 7 protected in the 2012 Draft, top 6 protected in 2013, and top 6 protected in the 2014 Draft). However, if Utah via New Jersey has not yet received this first round pick by the 2014 draft, then Utah via New Jersey shall instead receive: (i) Golden State's own 2014 2nd round pick and (ii) Golden State's own 2016 2nd round pick. [Golden State - New Jersey, 7/22/2008 and amended 9/21/2009 and then New Jersey - Utah, 2/23/2011]
