A petition to fight flopping

Post#1 » by SteveDobbs » Sun Apr 29, 2012 5:01 pm

As a Bulls fan trying to find things to do with myself besides suicide, I decided to start a Change.org petition against flopping in the NBA.

All it took was 300,000 signatures on this site for Bank of America to drop their $5 debit card fee.

If you think, as I do, that flopping is ruining the game, go on there and sign the petition. It takes five seconds. In a couple hours with nothing other than posting on the general board here I have a handful of signatures.

Stern and the NBA obviously don't have to listen to Jeff Van Gundy, but maybe with enough people voicing their displeasure, they'd have to take the issue seriously and look at doing something, anything about it.

Mods feel free to lock if you don't want this on your team's board.

Thanks. I didn't really anticipate reactions like the one above. Just cause Omer Asik flops I'm not allowed to have a problem with it now?

It's a reffing issue. We don't even need a rules change, just for the league to instruct the refs that they should dial back on calling any foul when the receiver of that foul makes no effort to play through it.

Just let the guys who fall down sit there on their backside while the offensive player takes a wide open shot or lays it up.... pretty soon, problem solved. They'll stop flopping because it will no longer be in their interest to flop.

We don't have to fine players to stop the behavior. We just have to stop rewarding it.

Is there another method to empower the defensive positional side of the game?

I hate the flop too but how do you get the refs to call an offensive foul when you have position and a guy runs right into you?

Good point. I think it would take a couple of years before defenders stop thinking so much about flopping. As a result we would probably see a boost in offensive production until the players figure it out. I think refs would have to ease up on blocking foul calls too, or its going to be unfair for the defense. All in all, I don't think letting the players play hurts the game like flopping does.

No Blood? = No foul. That's how we used to do back in in my day. Sack up, NBA.

Then don't vote Romney.

Oh, flopping in the NBA, yeah that's bad too.
