Now that the Lakers won the Nash sweepstakes and they are paying him $8M per, I think trading Bynum for D12 happens, and then getting rid of Pau makes tons of sense.
It saves them around $50M next year to send him for Al this year.
Trade:
Al Jefferson and protected first or Al/Watson/First Rounder protected
for
Pau (save $8M this year, $50M next year with repeater tax hikes) or Pau/Blake (saves them $12M this year, and $63M next year.)
I would prefer the first scenario as I think they would too. My fear is that if the lakers want to save the money they will do a deal with Houston who would likely take on Metta, and Blake and Pau and only have to send back KMart. That is the deal I would do if I was LAL. If I was wanting youth I would do the deal with Minny for Derrick Williams and expiring non deals like Webster etc.
Or we could offer Al/Raja/Watson/1st for Pau/Blake. Kobe and Nash like Bell.

Re: Pau Gasol Trade Saves them up to $75M
I prefer Jefferson leaving over Milsap like everyone else. Would love to see this team pass better and play more defense/rebound. I miss the old Jazz execution system and last year watching Al take on 3 defenders sort of drove me nuts.. but was it his fault with bad shooters outside? Or was that him being a black hole? Least he blocks.. It's not a bad idea to trade for Pau Gasol...he's very talented
My only worry is: He's due $19.2 million dollars in 2013.
Is he worth that much? Other than Marvin Williams and his $7.5 million dollar contract we have nobody going against the cap in 2013. Gasol would blow that right out of the water with near $20 million dollars. He is 5 years older than Al. I haven't been watching every laker game (for good reason since I can't stand them) so I'm not sure.. Also if we cannot come to an agreement with Milsap, he'll be a free again in 2013..
I guess it comes down to who's better in the Jazz system and do you mind paying $5 million more for a guy who is 5 years older in 2013? Steve blake is..not good. Do not want that..
(I know ranting wandering post..sorry)

Gasol still has all nba talent and his game is similar to Al's in that, he doesnt depend on his athleticism to be successful. He is a legit 7' and long. He is a far superior defender, passer, rebounder to Al, and his offense doesn't slow down the game.
He has 6 high quality years left whereas Al has just 1 cause we're not reupping Al.
Gasol would become an All Star again and would stay there for 3 or 4 years. After next year we could decide to reup him or not before Favors and Hayward kick in, but this makes us top 4 in the West instead of 7-9.
Remember without this move and despite M & M Williams (see what I did there
we will be fighting Portland, GSW, and Minny for #7 & 8 next year.

Not a good fit. His contract is too big, and by the time the rest of our team was up to their developmental capacity, he would be over the hill. Love his game, would have pulled the trigger on this if he was 3 years younger, but just not the best idea with where things are at right now. We are building around our young core of Favors, Kanter, Hayward and maybe Burks. That's the nucleus, like it or not. Unless we can get a superstar in his prime here, you don't threaten that. Pau would be nice in the short term but ultimately hold us back in the long one.

If we are gonna swap Al for a contract with an extra year, I'd much rather do it for Iggy or Granger. They are both younger bodies than Pau and provide something we need at a position we need. With the Pacers possibly losing Hibbert and with strong, young wings, they might be more willing than ever to swap Big Al and Granger.

Hibbert's max salary will actually be less than Al's salary, so I don't see them doing that deal. I imagine Al, even though he won't get a max contract obviously, will be making around what Hibbert is on his next deal -- just based on his number of years in the league.
I don't see Indiana biting on that offer, as much as I'd like it.
