Sadly, this is the most intelligent post in this thread.

In order to submit a bid for a partial waiver claim, the bidding team must have cap room equivalent to the portion of their bid that would be charged to team salary in that season, plus the amount of any likely bonuses (see question number 72) for that season. If necessary, teams can create this cap room by waiving non-guaranteed players, but not by making trades. The team must make the cap room available immediately upon being awarded the amnesty claim.

Utah is indeed over the cap, and therefore can not bid on amnestied players.

Why can't they amnesty Raja and clear enough space to bid on Scola?

^^^
I think we'd have enough money to bid, but it'd be a low offer. I'd be ecstatic to have Scola on this team. If there are two players in the league who can teach Kanter how to be effective as a "below-the-rim" player it is Scola and Jefferson.

If they amnesty Raja they'll be just above $56 million....so you know....they actually could.

Suns got him for an absolute steal...3.3 Million. We could have just about done it by letting Raja go. Of course, I'd only really want to do it as part of a bigger plan involving trading one of Millsap/Jefferson to free up starter minutes for Favors, bringing Scola off the bench.

$3.3 million was the minimum first year bid possible under the amnesty rules. The bid had to cover the player minimum plus any non-guaranteed money from his previous contract.

I think the total package over 3 years was around $13 mil.

From my understanding its more than 3.3 per.
I read somewhere it was 4.1/4.1/400K non guarantee the last yr.

We wouldnt have been able to get him.

What a steal!

But I don't blame the Jazz, as I don't it was possible to predict that quality players like Luis Scola would be amnestied this year.

If Phoenix would have been able to keep Eric Gordon, they would have been the wheeler-dealers of the year.
