CJ got a lousy contract

Post#1 » by retiredcoach » Thu Aug 9, 2012 2:15 pm

CJ apparently got a really poor contract if the leaks are correct.

He's getting a little over $4 mill for two years with the 2nd year of the contract not guaranteed.

So he took a million dollar a year pay cut. With his numbers that's surprising. He's making between half a million and one million dollars a year less than the players he's replacing, and he's just about at the same skill and contribution level as they were.

Oh well!

I'm not surprised. It seems like his inconsistency is starting to override his potential. While still young he hasn't taken the next step after years of waiting. It didn't sound like he had lots of offers out there.

He was way overpaid by the Jazz. Doesnt mean he'd get overpaid twice. He's lucky to have what he has. CJ stats are the definition of empty stats. The dude might be out of the league after this run with the Cavs....

And his empty stats aren't even GOOD stats. I agree that this might be his last hurrah.

He's been in the league 7 years, and people still talk about his potential. I don't understand it.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

When you get worse year after year instead of better, your pay does the same thing.

At least we replaced him with a top three pick!

CJ getting someone to pay him 4 million actually seems like a pretty good contract on his part. :D

CJ is getting $2 million a year for two years, but the second year is a team option.

with the new CBA the average players (like cj) are more impacted; two years ago he'd have took a longer and more lucrative contract

Remember he got an offer sheet from the Thunder and we matched. It wasn't like the Jazz just offered him that contract.
