Trade Proposal: UTA & OKC & SAC

Post#1 » by QuantumMacgyver » Tue Aug 21, 2012 8:12 pm

So..... bored. Summer.... so.... long. Need... train.... ing camp.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=8tz8p3e

Jazz:
Mo/Maynor
Harden/Foye
Hayward/Marvin
Favors/Evans
Perkins/Kanter

OKC:
Westbrook/Jimmer
Thabo/Tyreke
Durrant/PJ3
Serge/Collison
Al/Thabeet

SAC:
Brooks/Thomas
Salmons/Burks
Thornton/Garcia/Outlaw
Millsap/Robinson
Cousins/Thompson

Utah gets it's All-Star to pair with Favors, becomes one of the best defensive teams in the league, lands a solid backup PG.

OKC replaces the redundant Ibaka/Perkins post with the complimentary play of Ibaka/Big Al. They also swap Harden for Tyreke, and while no one would put the two players in the same category, Tyreke has tons of potential and would be as good a replacement at the sixth-man spot as anyone OKC might otherwise hope to get. OKC also retains the right to match any offer for Tyreke, which should be easier to match than the offers Harden is likely to get. Jazz sweeten the pot by swapping OKC pick for GSW pick.

SAC hands the reigns over to Brooks and now possesses one of the most dangerous post duos in the league in Millsap/Cousins and Robinson/Thompson off the bench. SAC also gets to makeup for the Jimmer selection and replace him with Burks.

Can't have two Haywards on the same team. Easy no.

Easy yes for the Jazz, in my opinion, but I can't see OKC being thrilled with the return and Sacramento is over-compensated (just my opinion).

OKC says no. Harden compliments them way better than Tyreke and they're not giving that difference up for Big Al's expiring (plus his awful defense, especially post-dwight trade). Not too bad though, works for sactown and Utah.

Yeah. James Harden is easily the best player in this deal. No way that OKC lets him go unless they get cheap talent back. I'm wondering if a deal centered around Kanter might get something done.

I'm thinking of a variation of this trade, which will land us Damian Lillard and shake-up the NW Division.

Millsap, Jefferson, GSW 1st to OKC
Westbrook, Perkins to POR
Lillard, Matthews, Hickson, Freeland, Leonard (plus picks?) to UTA

Predicated on some factors:
1. OKC chokes on the cap and figures Harden is better for them long-term;
2. POR tries to appease lone star Aldridge and quickly become contenders; and,
3. UTA hands the reins to the young guys and decides to push title aspirations 3-4 years back.

Williams/Lillard/Watson/Tinsley
Hayward/Burks/Matthews/Foye/Bell
Williams/Carroll
Favors/Hickson/Evans/Freeland
Kanter/Leonard

Homegrown Lillard gets a chance to start in his 2nd year. Hickson will provide off-the bench scoring, and Matthews will hopefully give the same effort he did when he was with UTA. Freeland becomes 4th big/project.

I'm not sure about the salaries though, because ESPN and hoopshype have different numbers.

I'd rather have Evans than Harden. I know I'm in an extremely small minority.

Westbrook would be awesome. If he's available, I'd rather have him than Harden, and I'd be willing to pay for it.

Still think OKC vomits again, but maybe I'm being too skeptical here.

Westbrook is just too valuable to ship out for that package, especially since -- given the fact that cap issues are mentioned as a reason to do the deal -- Jefferson, Millsap, or both are just filler to make the numbers work. By next year, in this scenario, they've basically traded Westbrook for POSSIBLY Paul Millsap and POSSIBLY an 8-15 draft pick. That's real bad value.

Oh, I totally agree. When I said I'd pay for it, I meant we'd have to sweeten the deal a bunch to make it worth Westbrook.

It's not a bad Video game trade, but OKC just loses their soul here. They trade defense for offense without getting better.

Sorry -- was responding to Bullet's post; I should've quoted him. I'd be opening to sweetening a given deal as well. By NBA standards, Westbrook's "head" isn't that bad and the guy is a phenomenal talent.
