Just for kicks, here's the rotation I would actually like to see:

Jefferson (32) / Kanter (16)
Favors (28) / Millsap (20)
Ma. Williams (32) / Hayward (16)
Hayward (16) / Burks (24) / Foye (8)
Mo William (28) / Tinsley or Watson (20)
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

I don't get the love fest with Hayward.

Yes he is kinda good but he can't shoot and he can't rebound, and he can't dribble for a PG. He can pass the ball and does have an eye for the court (court vision). For a SG/SF position he still has work to do. But he could easily develop his shoot better and develop a shoot/pass off of movement and that would get him minutes/potentially 6th man of the year minutes.

In my minutes breakdown the SG/SF position shows that it was such a weak spot for the Jazz last year. Finally getting a good shooter will generate playing time for Foye and Marv. At SF Milsap has too many minutes here too. But do you play Hayward or Milsap? Milsap definitely! Someone with a shot has to play that position and Milsap is one of the best on the team doing this last year.

Tyrone Corbin said there will be more competition for minutes in Utah's rotation this season.
"We’ve had a great opportunity to visit individually with the guys," said Corbin. "We talked about what we expect from them. They have to compete every time they step on the floor. Nobody will be given anything." Jamaal Tinsley and Earl Watson will battle for backup PG minutes behind Mo Williams, Gordon Hayward will be pushed by Randy Foye and Alec Burks, and both Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter should demand more playing time in the frontcourt. Training camp should clarify some position battles, so stay tuned. Sep. 15 - 8:21 pm et

And I think randy foye can play sf, I mean he did some last year. As for hayward, I think he is a nice player to have in the form of mike miller. Yea he is getting overrated, his defense especially. I mean he does well defending jump shooters due to his length but he can't keep up with most guys that are driving to the basket which is a huge weakness. I mean yea he will do nice versus durant if he's jump shooting all game but even old man j rich or grant hill can take him off the dribble anytime they want.

This is basically what I want to see. I'd change a few thing though.

Jefferson (30) / Kanter (18)
Favors (28) / Millsap (20)
Ma. Williams (26) / Hayward (12)/ Millsap (10)
Hayward (20) / Burks (24)/ Foye (4)
Mo William (30) / Foye (18)

I'd play Watson or Tinsley only if Foye doesn't work at PG. He'd spread the floor for our bigs and we could let Haywards and Burks create too.

Right on. I don't really know enough about Foye.

What's his offensive game like? I hear he's a shooter. Does he spot up? Does he put the ball on the floor? Can he run an offense? How's his pick and roll game?

What's his defense like? I hear he's strong with a decent wingspan. Is he fast? Is he quick? Is he physical? Get into the passing lanes?

All Corbin said is guys will have to compete. The reporter is projecting the positional battles.

So I took a stab not just at minutes distribution, but at a substitution pattern as well:

Image

Positions are color-coded and hopefully obvious. There's a big minutes jump for Favors and Hayward that I don't think is unreasonable. Kanter plays 16 minutes and is always on the court with another veteran big man. There's a slight reduction in Jefferson's and Millsap's minutes -- something I think will actually be beneficial to them as they both looked tired at times. I have the Jazz closing the half and the game with the big lineup featuring Millsap at the three.

I lumped the veteran backup point guards together since I can't imagine both of them playing in the same game unless Mo is hurt. I also lumped Burks/Foye together because I think they will largely compete for the same minutes unless they opt to play either one at PG.

I didn't include numbers for Evans, Murphy, Carroll etc. as I don't think they'll play significant minutes given the off-season acquisitions.

Thoughts?

First thought: it is obviously off season and you are looking for something to pass the time. ;)

Do you really think Milsap's numbers will go down? Or is Favors, Hayward, and Marv that much of a priority over Milsap?

Hayward has the most minutes is he the best player on the team? or does he have a skill no one else has that is needed on the floor? I think it is a bit high, but I guess you are thinking the same with Favors as he needs the time to develop....right?

This isn't a prediction so much as what I would do if given the task of mapping out a substitution plan.

We could also you the same question for yours: is Randy Foye the best player on the team?

keep reading, he is the "or does he have a skill no one else has that is needed on the floor"

Jazz weakness and reason in my opinion they didn't go further in the playoffs was because of a lack of an outside threat. Foye gives this very much so, and is much needed on the floor. That is why I give him so many minutes.
