What would you have given for Lillard?

Post#1 » by SoCalJazzFan » Thu Nov 1, 2012 8:15 pm

Is the pass on giving up a promising player one of the front office moves that will be viewed as a mistake in the future? Although only 1 game into his career, Lillard is looking pretty special.

Who would you have given for Lillard? If they wanted Kanter or Favors would you have given either of them, knowing that you could resign either Sap or Al in their place? What if it was Hayward or Big Al?

Personally, with the log jam at the 4/5, I wonder if the Jazz wouldn't be better off by having traded one of the youngins at one of those spots for a future franchise PG to go along with the other big youngin, Hayward, and whoever else you build your team around.

We'll find a good PG, don't worry about it.

I wouldn't have traded Kanter or Favors. I would have traded anyone else, but that wouldn't have gotten the deal done most likely.

Would we be better with Lillard / Millsap / Favors than Mo / Kanter / Favors? Probably. But would we be better than future first round PG / Kanter / Favors? Don't think so. Just my opinion though.

Pretty much anyone outside of Hayward and Favors.

Anyone outside of Favors, Kanter, and maybe Hayward...I've been questioning whether Gordo is ever going to really be that aggressive, assertive guy we need.

Any combination of picks/players outside of Favors and Kanter. But to be honest, the Blazers never would have traded that pick. They zeroed in on him early on and never wavered. But we could have made a move with the Kings. They didn't seem crazy about Robinson and were rumored to have interest in moving the pick. If you traded Millsap, Burk/Hayward the GS pick and a future 1st, that should have easily netted the pick in return. Maybe we take a bad contract off their hands in return as well.

I just don't think the Jazz are interested in taking a risk like that when they have positioned themselves so well. But they're going to have to take a swing for the fences otherwise they'll just lose out on the change anyway. I sure hope we don't mess this up.

I'm worried that the Jazz have missed their chance to get something out of Jefferson/Millsap before they both leave for nothing next summer.

Still don't know if I'm buying lilliard just yet. He looks noticiably comfortable and pretty experienced due to coming of his senior season as opposed to someone like bayless who came out rookie year. I just don't like how he plays. He looks highly ineffecient in more ways than one and his passes are often too dangerous which i think after a while many of those will be turnovers like some were last night.

I don't know I could easily be wrong but I'm not a fan yet. With that said I would consider Burks and the GS pick for him just because he was a senior coming out of college which I highly favor and does have high potential.

When GS kept we lost the chance to get Lillard. But if we had gotten the pick I would have given Burks or sap for the#4 pick with Cleveland.

I would probably give up anyone outside of Kanter. Favors is nice, but we need a Lillard more than a Favors, especially with Kanter and if we can resign Millsap or Jefferson. Lillard is one of the two best rookies so far.

I think we have. All we can hope for is a sign and trade or an extension IMO.

That play to end the third pretty much shows you everything you need to know about him. He's a big time, big moment player.

He really does remind me a lot of Billups.

Me too. The logic is that a trade at the deadline with a team that is over the cap would produce the assets we're wanting in return. Still, there are going to be 10+ teams with max cap space next year, and not anywhere near the players to fill that void. So we'll be talking about a max deal for Jefferson and maybe 12+ for Millsap. There's no way the Jazz match the offers out there. If they get to FA, its over.

I just have to hope that maybe Houston wants to flip some of their assets to us in return for Big Al, or that an aging team desperate to make one more run (Boston, SA, Dallas types) decides to mortgage some of their future to prop the door open. Its not looking promising, though. The Jazz always err on the side of conservatism, and it could cost us a chance at building a true contender here.

Cost of doing business. That is not an unfair price, actually.
