Superstar?
hey fellas.
Today after watching the game against the warriors. I thought. When we will have another go to guy? Our franchise player.
Can we land it to the Salt Lake in during free agency or trades? No.
The only way is trough the draft.
Are we ready? I mean Jazz fans. Are we ready to wait and see Utah Jazz tank or punched everytime? During 2-3 seasons. Ala Bobcats, Wizards...
Cause right now we are in the middle of standings. For 2 nd straight year. Utah will be 7-8 seed or 9-10. WIth no plan what's so ever.
There is no deep run into the post season and no high picks in the draft.
And please, Kanter and Favors. No words about them. There is no that potential.
Any thoughts?

So we have to wait for a draft with a Kevin Durrant or LeBron James in it, then we can tank? What about all the other teams that are going to tank to get said players? Can we really out tank them? Everybody talks about how we should tank so that we can rebuild with a top 3 pick. WE HAVE TWO OF THEM!!! What makes people think that tanking in any other year will yield better results?

Re: Superstar?
Sorry but I have to say Kanter and Favors.
Do you remember the first few years of Dwight Howard? He was called a stiff and even Orlando's decision to draft him over Okafor was questioned by some. And mind you that he was instantly a starter and first option in his team and had all the opportunity.
Every NBA fan knows that bigs require more time to develop. Kanter and Favors are still very young and they are yet to receive their opportunity to shine as a starter.
Relax, both will be all-stars in a few years. Jazz FO knows that, the coaching staff knows that... and they will be acting accordingly.

Re: Superstar?
Today Kanter and Favors played almost 20 mins.
Nothing special.
There is no flashes of brilliance.
Favors is having 3rd season. Need to wait 3-4 years more or what?

Yeah, sure and Hayward will be next Ginobili and Burks next Wade...
Truth is none of them have superstar or even all-star potential. Not a chance.

It's not that tanking in any particular year will yield better results; the idea is that accumulating high lottery picks increases your odds of landing a superstar.

And they both were drafted to high. Neither was/is worth top 3 pick status.

No plan? NO PLAN?
Front Office Gameplan:
Step 1: Make the playoffs no matter what by overpaying offense-first, no defense veterans and drafting in the late teens. Bench rookies. Don't give meaningful minutes to anyone under 23.
Step 2: Hope the fan base doesn't notice there is absolutely no future outside of disappointing first round exits.
Step 3: $$$

I really hate it when you accurately distill the essence of this franchise's MO. It's depressing.

This team needs to go in on the next sure thing in the draft. Trade a combo of really good players for the one star than build around him.

Re: Superstar?
I've been saying this since the preseason.
The young core isn't good enough to get us anywhere, and none of them are going to be repeat all stars. But everyone got upset and promised me that Kanter would be a 35/15 MVP, DPOY, and provide regular 4 point plays especially in late game situations for game winning buzzer beaters.

In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Re: Superstar?
I don't think we necessarily need a "superstar" but I do think you gotta be able to put talented and skilled guys that can play their roles to an elite or very high level but they don't have to be an overall elite player. Oviously detroit set the blueprint and memphis is a team that coming close too that level.
Favors is a great starting point which is a guy that can play elite defense ala tyson chandler. Burks has alot of upside as a scorer kinda like a motivated jamal crawford (keyword: motivated). From there I think we look to trade Hayward and Kanter for a more talented young guy or a very good but not to old vet, mabey even kevin love. Next, while this might just be my own opinion, I still think Kevin murphy will be a stud and a great starter at the small foward position. Now we just gotta buy low on some talent. Tyreke . I mean look at what he did after the kings moved him to his proper position of SG (before he got injured). He was beasting!!!! Even gaveus the business when we went to sac-town this year. So if we can get him for a good price then get a nice pg that can do some playmaking and shooting ala eric maynor then I think thats a great midway point.
Maynor
Tyreke
Murphy/Burks
Love
Favors
So from there I'm sure we can make a major trade with whatever talent we have left (I didn't even mention the picks which we may or may not use in a kevin love trade) to get another highly talented guy. With the right coaching staff and system (don't think corbins as bad as people say but I don't know about him as a championship level coach yet) then I think it can work out.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Re: Superstar?
The Jazz have a lot of nice pieces that would compliment a star very well. The problem is, that means exactly jack unless the Jazz get a true star. Everybody on the roster is expendable until that need is met. After we get a star, then we can worry about what pieces are left over and how they fit.

u trade 2/3 of your core 4 for Harden oh yeah we didnt...that is the only way for us to get someone who is a superstar.
Play with the Pass, Play with a Purpose, and Play with Pace along with Obvious Unselfishness....Coach Snyder says the sky is purple than Jazz players say nice purple sky! LONG LIVE THE MAD SCIENTIST!!!!

We needed to get Lillard in the draft and didn't give up millsap and picks to make it happen. We will regret that for a long time to come. Mill sap and picks to sac for #5

how do you know that was an option? what makes you think the jazz didn't offer this trade or a similar one and got rejected? two teams need to say yes to a deal. and if you'll notice, the only trade in the lottery on draft day was made by the rockets and it only moved them two spots up to 12. it was reported on draft day and was spoken about after the draft by KOC and others that because it was such a strong draft it was extremely hard to get into the lottery, and as evidence, only one team managed to do so, and even that was a 2 spot improvement on the fringe of the lottery.
and the kings are trying to keep their payroll as low as possible. they would much rather get t-rob on a rookie contract than millsap both because of potential and because of his lower cost.
