What if we took Chris Paul?

Post#1 » by Ming Kong! » Sun Dec 30, 2012 7:31 pm

So lets assume he gets the same roster as a rookie:

Okur/Ostertag/Whaley
Boozer/J.Collins/K.Humphries
Kirilenko/Harpring/CJ Miles
Giricek/Devin Brown/Andre Owens
Paul/McCleod/Palacio

Maybe eventually we get pieces like Brewer and Millsap, or similar steals, I don't know, that's harder to predict.

Anyways, do you think we would of fared much better or worse with Paul? Remember that Williams was healthy most of the time while he was in Utah, while Paul had a couple of seasons where he had injuries, ofcourse his fate could of been different here. Do you think he goes Hollywood on us too, or do think a superior core, plus a coach like Sloan keep him happy in a small market like SLC/Utah?

I don't see any reason why KOC would've done a better job keeping CP3 happy than Deron.

Cp3 whined 100x more than DWill ever did when he was in New Orleans.

Did Paul have as good of a supporting cast though? I don't know if Paul would of made Okur or Boozer better, but I think Kirilenko would of done better with Paul.

i don't think it would matter. once you make him a SF, AK is what he is. doesn't have a great handle, inconsistent jump shooter, can't really post up or create offense for himself. most of his advantages are negated when you move him from PF to SF.

in the end, you can only do so much, and AK's struggles had more to do with how the coach used him and with his role on the team. it's not like deron didn't create open shots for him. CP3 would do the same, but they can't make him make those shots, ore rebound more, or block more shots and so on.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

At the time Utah saw d will as a better system player and more durable and physically stronger of the two guards. I think Paul would have been better than d will in most aspects but not as efficient in the sloan system.

No way to predict what would have happened....... I don't think things would have been significantly different......

CP3 instead of Deron still wouldn't address our frontcourt defense. We still would've lost against the Spurs and the Lakers.

We would have been better, no doubt, barring injuries of course. There are only a handful of players in this league that could be placed on any team in the league, and have the same kind of production. Lebron, Durant, and Kobe are some of the obvious choices. But I'd put Chris Paul in that category as well. I remember being baffled during draft night that we chose D-Will over him. Even though D-Will was a fabulous prospect at that point, Chris Paul was considered to be the best PG prospect since Jason Kidd. He had everything you wanted in a pure point guard. He was the closest thing to Stockton, and still probably is. D-Will has been a top 5-10 point guard for most of his career. Chris Paul has been THE best point guard in the league for most of his career.

If we would have drafted Paul, and some how found a way to acquire a Kevin Martin shooter and a defensive presence like Tyson Chandler, we would have been a true contender.

Also, Chris Paul is a way better leader than D-Will. He's the best floor general in the game, which is why LAC is lighting up the league right now.

About the same. D-Wills been **** lately but when he was with the jazz he was 1a. 1b. with paul for elite point guards in the league.
