Draft Night Trade to make sure we get Schroeder

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Tue Jun 4, 2013 5:54 am

The more I look at mock drafts the more I worry about one team and one team only taking him ahead of us and that is Dallas.

So we trade #14 & #21 to OKC for #12 & #29.

Dallas may end up taking a Euro to stash, but its likely that they select a PG and with their deep international scouting and German ties it wouldn't surprise me at all if they went with Dennis Schroeder.

Talent is all about the same from 18-35 so dropping 9 spots later on is fine with me. We can trade out at that point to MIAMI for their Philly pick in the future or we can take a flier on an international kid, or go shooter:

Options that could be at 29: Reggie Bullock, Mohammadou Jateih, Isaiah Canaan, Rudy Gobert, James Ennis etc.

Thoughts?

My sig banner notwithstanding, I'm not sure I like Schröder enough to trade down 8 spots with the second pick. I think there's nearly as much chance of the 21st pick panning out as the 14th.

Seems like the talent is level is all about the same from 5-35 in this draft.

I've posted this before, but if the Jazz could get OKC's #12, #29 and #32 for the Jazz's #14 and #21 I would seriously consider it (OKC doesn't need or want 3 picks in this year's draft).

As a secondary move, the Jazz could offer the #32 and #46 picks (neither will be guaranteed money or could be used to stash foreign players) for Dallas' #13 pick (and pick up Carter's $3M expiring contract if necessary) Dallas wants to shed salary and position themselves for Dwightmare II and outside of a TPE (only Chicago and Orlando have a TPE big enough to eat Vince Carter) this is about as good as they could get.

Having the #12 and #13 opens up some possibilities.

I like this idea a lot, not necessarily to get a particular player, but it seems like a good use of extra cap space.

Jazz don't need to trade to keep Schroder from Dallas. As long as Dallas is in the running for either Howard or Paul they need the money from this spot; therefore, they will either trade this pock or draft and stash a European player.
