To be fair to Whiteside, his instincts of rolling and expecting a pass is kicking in, multiple times he almost deflected passes for others, but a least he's being a roll threat down there. His length and size were also helping in altering shots. The things he did were not reflected in the box score.

Paschall is as advertised: mobile small ball big who can score. Laterally he can keep up and rebounding wasn't a problem as the team took a committee approach crashing the boards.

Liked what I saw with Mike, seems his built has improved. Hope this added weight won't aggravate his hamstring. Gobert also looked to score on multiple occasions. Jazz needs him to be an offensive threat and not just a decoy.

The bench was exciting, all can contribute. JC, Joe should be the regulars and I can see it'll be anyone from Whiteside, Paschall, Forrest, and Gay to round out the rotation. Quin saying Jared should be patient worries me though. I hope he gets some reps.

Whiteside had a couple nice defensive plays last night. Baby steps. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if Dok challenges him this year.

That would be terrific if Dok challenges Whiteside for PT. Whiteside needs to work hard on fitting into the system. Currently he is not understanding how to effectively work within the system that is dominated by Rudy's screen setting. Hopefully he is coachable and can make that adjustment. Dok also needs to get a better understanding of his role. While Whiteside seems a little behind, Dok seems lost only wanting to dunk and missing defensive assignments. Having one or both of these two make significant improvement this season will be a strong factor in how far the Jazz can play into the playoff's

Yes, in fairness to Whiteside, Monday was only his second game, and a preseason game at that. Good to hear that Gobert is steadily in Whiteside's ear. Conley and Ingles are great coaches on the floor too.

Have fun at the game tonight. The early indication from Rotowire this morning is that both teams will be starting their regular season starters. The only difference in Milwaukee's expected starting lineup versus their Finals' starting lineup is Grayson Allen in place of the departed P.J. Tucker.

Whiteside looking nice and engaged here and seems to be figuring out our defensive system and where to find people on the short roll.

Is this the first time JC is playing with someone in the backcourt, off the bench, who is a triple threat like him since he got to Utah? Butler and him look good.

Unless we count Mudiay

Butler is a good little player, and in the NBA it's clear his body has some room to develop. Very exciting.

It is going to be really difficult to keep Butler out of the rotation. I'm actually looking forward to Conley going down with a hamstring injury.

Reading this post game writeup at NBA.com, which includes Quin Snyder's positive post game comments about Butler, you would think Jared Butler has a strong chance to play a lot of important regular season minutes.

Butler and Hughes Spark Comeback Victory Over Milwaukee
https://www.nba.com/jazz/news/butler-and-hughes-spark-comeback-victory-over-milwaukee

But this post game writeup as KSL, after recognizing that Butler is making his case for rotation play, mentions Snyder's preference for nine man rotation and mentions the four ball handlers ahead of Butler: Conley, Mitchell, Ingles and Clarkson. The writer says Butler isn't a lock for rotation play. I hope Butler plays.

Jared Butler makes another case for rotation play in Jazz win over Bucks
https://www.ksl.com/article/50261695/jared-butler-makes-another-case-for-rotation-play-in-jazz-win-over-bucks

But as comfortable and effective as he's looked, it doesn't mean Butler is a lock for Quin Snyder's rotation once the regular season begins Wednesday against Oklahoma City.

I'd love to see a close up of the bench reaction with that failed dunk attempt

Can't wait for the regular season to begin. I don't think it's a stretch that the Jazz will compete for the best record. Offense is not going to be a problem, at all, again this year. Any hope of going deep is going to revolve around Snyder being able to concoct playoff level defense with no wing stoppers (a tall task). I'm not sure how that is going to happen with the current personnel. Perhaps it will come down to simply being more efficient on offense than opponents? Super-excited to see more Butler, what role Gay can play. I think Paschal is the the sleeper move that will help the Jazz in small ball sets.

Very stoked for the beginning of this season, if for no other reason than to get the stench of the bubble and Covid year meltdowns. While it would have been better to not have had those, I believe those experiences made the Jazz make the off season decisions to address their shortcomings. Whiteside, is an upgrade over Favors (One of my favorite Jazz players ever) defensively and will make it so the Jazz don't have to make such huge changes in how they operate on both sides of the ball. I also think Paschal and Gay will be big factors by seasons end, and Butler, if given the opportunity, will have a significant impact. His job is just like Donovan's was doing his rookie year... make sure the coaching staff has a reason to have you be in the game. From my untrained eye, his preseason work is trending that way, now it's up to Butler to keep that trend moving in that direction and for Q to accurately support that like he did when Donovan made that push. Remember, DM wasn't starting or playing a ton at the beginning of his rookie year, but he simply made it impossible for the team to keep him off the floor. Maybe these 4 additions will get us over the hump, Very excited for this season to begin!!!

I am a bit more optimistic about Conley than I was a few months ago. He looks like he showed up ready to fight for a title. He is really moving well and shooting well. Last season he had a career high in efg% and assists per 36 mins. I think there is chance he hits those marks again --- or even improves. Hopefully between hot yoga, load management and Butler's emergence as a credible backup, we can keep Conley mostly available to play this season.

Gobert and Donovan are still getting better and adding moves to their repertoires.

Did you see Whiteside's block on Giannis at the three point line Thursday?

Imo, we've got a chance to be better and go further than last season. Go Jazz!

Hahaha yeah this. Would love to see who that was who crouched in disappoinment

In other news, lots if waived players. Still think Dunn can help perimeter D at least over Hughes and Oni, although I like how both are getting reps and gaining confidence in their games
