Game 22: Boston Celtics (12-10) @ Utah Jazz (14-7)

Post#1 » by Inigo Montoya » Thu Dec 2, 2021 9:48 am

We had some good games vs the Celtics in recent matches, so this might be a close one. Also, Enes Kanter Freedom is coming back to SLC. I have to say I have mad respect for the guy, who not only talks the talk but also walks the walk.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Agree that Enes Kanter is standing up for his beliefs and human rights in his home country. Not many people would risk prison for speaking out against government corruption, not to mention giving up ever being able to return home. He was judged for his basketball antics and unprofessionalism while here. Maybe that was when he was developing his ideals about freedom and oppression.

I was actually talking more about how he called out LeBron, the NBA and China, which is more recent. What he said about Turkey is relatively old news. Anyway, as of a few days ago he's officially a US citizen, so congrats to him.

Rotowire has Jaylen Brown listed OUT, resting for hamstring injury management in a back to back. They've got Forrest listed as GTD Toss Up with a non-covid illness. Speaking of hamstring injury management, seems like we were kind of playing with fire suiting up Conley for both games in our recent back to back.

While the argument for playing with fire with Conley, I think there was more to it from a psychological side for the entire team that payed a role in that decisions. After the game, the entire team was in a funk and came to grips with their consistent low level of play, and a team mindset took over that we need to be better collectively. Having MC sit out would have taken him out of that mojo the team was finally making an effort to reclaim. The home and home schedule also helped the back to back with no travel. Could have backfired had the hammy flared up, Glad it didn't and hopefully the ship has been righted and the course set that everyone thinks this team should be on, not what they have been doing for the first 20 games.

I hope the 3 days off and a higher quality team coming in will be a test to see if that is the case.

It'll be a big break for the Jazz if Jalen Brown is out for this game. He's performed very well against us, including sinking a game-winning buzzer beater.

Refs were really hard on us tonight and we were sloppy with the ball. What an exciting win

Maybe this hard win will continue the development the Jazz have had in the last 3 games. 4 games ago, this would have been another ugly loss. probably the worst of the season with how easily they were playing in the first quarter, only to see it implode. There were big portions of this game where it looked like their toughness was not that at all, but a soft collective "sense of entitlement" emerged. Yes, there were some tough calls from the ref's, but other teams have figured out that if they bully the Jazz, they will fold. Watching them fight through that may prove to be an important development and will allow them to not be pushed around. I think the change happened when Ingles told DM to go backdoor and the slam awakened the team. DM had the dunk, but Ingles saw it before the ball was inbounded during the time stoppage. Ugly win, but maybe a season high level of importance one. Hopefully now they have learned that bully-ball won't work on them.
