Jerry Wests Comments
Jerry Sloan certainly has his backers.
One prominent name is Jerry West, the former Lakers GM and one of the greats of all-time....you know, the logo.
West, interviewed today on Sportscenter, sounded off on Deron Williams, criticizing him for any potential role the Jazz point guard may have had in Sloan's sudden resignation.
"I saw the game last night, and Deron got his fanny kicked by a great player, (Derrick Rose)," West said. "And I have great respect for Deron, but to put blame on the coach? Forget it. If that's really the reason, then it's sad for everyone concerned."
Speaking of Sloan, West praised him for his years of service, his ability to field a winning team on a yearly basis, his ability to coach through the change of basketball to the modern era.
"Jerry's one of the great guys to coach," West said. "He's a stalwart for the NBA. People like him don't come along very often."

Nah man, there are just too very viable ways to look at things and people are all getting too polarized...but what do you expect, we're all pretty emotionally attached to this team. My guess is that opinions will gradually change over the course of the next 2 seasons.
That was way too reasonable. Please edit your post to include more ad hominem attacks, baseless speculation, derogatory sexual acts and exclamation marks.
Thank you.

That sounds exactly like what happened. If Sloan had been fired, there would have BEEN no press conference after the game, except to announce Sloan was fired.
Sloan definitely chose to leave, and thats why Johnson left, too. Nobody kicked them out. They were maybe asked to try something different, they probably refused, voices were raised, threats were made, and Sloan probably said "To hell with you guys, I'm nearly 70 and I dont need this sh*t anymore, I'm OUT!" and Johnson probably said "Amen" and that was that.....
All speculation....but to assume Sloan was forced out is ludicrious.....

Jerry West should keep his comments to himself until he has the facts. If the facts are as he says they are, then he is entitled to his opinion and I partly agree....but he's blaming Deron, like you are, before there are any known facts.....again...communication is a two-way street. To blame Williams alone is foolish.

Magic fan here....Do you guys feel like D.Will will resign with you guys and if not do you think a trade of jason richardson jameer nelson and ryan anderson and picks for Dwill and Okur would be enough for you guys? J.Rich is a expiring SG and Nelson is probably the best pg that could be traded for and will expire in 2012 and Anderson is a young big with excellent 3pt range.

From the Fisher thing to Boozer last night and now this D-Will garbage.
Best fans in the NBA are here in Utah. We're only proving it by standing on the right side of this mess. We're going to stand with Jerry because some things are more important than winning.

Re: Deron Trades
Not a fan of any team, but I must say Sloan was one of my favorite coaches. Jerry is/was nonsense and old school to the core which you have to respect. Deron Williams is very talented but if there is any hint to the rumors that he is responsible for Jerry stepping down then he loses tons of my respect. With that said, it will be interesting to see how fans treat him for the duration of his contract, as I understand some have been saying he would opt out and head back home to Dallas once his contract is up. Really sad day for BASKETBALL fans everyone.

LOL. Obviously a very emotional situation. Certainly for me. Like many others have said, Jerry was the Jazz for as long as I've been a fan. He represents everything right about the game and everything that attracted me to the Jazz.
I've had issues with how Deron comports himself for a long time now, and this really put things over the top for me. I don't want him to be my franchise player, even though I understand how talented he is on the basketball court. But it's a good organization, and Ty is a good man, who I have hope will do things the right way.
I guess it's time to find out what Ty learned from Sloan. And I hope this whole ordeal serves as some sort of reality check for Deron. I want to stick with this team, because it's all I know as a basketball fan and it's still one of a small list of organizations which possess some sense of ethics and values. But it's going to be real hard cheering for Deron, and I can't say I'll be upset when he leaves.

I'm speaking as a neutral observer: Sloan couldn't adapt to the modern realities of the NBA. Too much fouling, not enough 3's, and no room for change in the system. Also, he seemed to ignore advanced stats.

You need to have guys capable of making threes. And he adapted the system every year to fit his players; the idea that he didn't is one of the strangest myths out there. If you were going to pick weaknesses, you should have gone with defending the three and waiting too long to call timeouts.

Re: Deron Trades
He didn't utilize the Bowen corner 3 enough in my opinion. It spreads the defense by putting a threat in the furthest part of the half court and is closer to the basket.

Re: Deron Trades
If you are taking offers for Deron how about the rights to Rubio, your 2011 pick back, the Mem Pick back the wolves 2014 1st and your choice of Pek or Flynn?
Hope it's not too soon, I will remember the days of Stockton/Malone with Sloan standing on the sidelines with this look of just knowing what was going to happen at every point in the game.

Funny that you're laughing at fiction.
Paul didn't have Bryon Scott fired. In fact, it ticked off Paul.

Completely agree. You don't win if you don't adapt, see Don Nelson.

Are you really saying those three guys are untouchable to get a top-3-in-the-league PG?
