Looks soft to me. And that's from a highlight reel. So, I'm not too excited.

We did run Pete Chilcut for a while though, didn't we? So, I guess being soft doesn't mean you can't see the floor.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Maybe he can put on 50 more pounds in 4 years, and turn out pretty decent. If he is NBA ready, then my geuss is that he will come. I just don't think he is quite NBA ready yet, unless he is willing to develop behind Kanter and Favors.

If he put on another 50 pounds that'd make him 310 or 315 and I don't think that is realistic at all. He's gone from 215 to about 260 or 265. Maybe he fills out another 5 or 10 but this is pretty close to the finished product.

Here's a more legit comparison to think about... Rik Smits. Smits was 7'4 250. When you factor in Tomic's wingspan he is longer too.

Smits even made it back in the 90s... but these back to the basket bangers are mostly long gone. He'll be a good team defender... especially with guys like Bynum and Howard hurting (one more than the other)... Tomic is a great fit in today's NBA. No Zo, Dream, Shaq, Admiral, etc. & Tomic has at least 10 pounds on Smits in his prime.

Smits was physically aggressive. I don't have a lot of information, but Tomic doesn't look aggressive at all.

I was thinking that if he put on a lot of weight that he could become and effective stiff like Marc Gasol. Otherwise, I see NBA centers just backing him down to the basket for easy buckets, which they cannot do with Kanter because he is too strong.

from the vids, he looks pretty slow. the way he recovered from mistakes was pretty cool, but in the nba, keeping the ball low, or dribbling before a dunk, or bobbling the ball is just another way to turn the ball over. keep in mind the competition he is and will be facing.

think of it this way, if he showed any kind of promise of sticking in the nba, the jazz, or another nba team (via trade) would have brought him over. but jazz already have 4 bigs, who all look stronger, faster, and more aggressive than what those vids showed.

THIS.

I started my assessments of Tomic as a top 5 center in Europe and now more as of late consider him the top overall center... you know from actually watching him.

And it's not as simple as signing him. But I firmly believe there are NBA teams out there willing to pony up for a 7 figure buy-out just to sign him... because he's the BEST center in Europe.

This is not me being a homer or playing favorites. And I don't say it lightly because it means he's better than Bourousis & Krstic.

Also, the Jazz have TWO good bigs under contract after this season. The other TWO are UFAs.

Kevin O'Connor on the radio today mentioned that they've been keeping tabs on Tomic this season, with several of the staff having seen him in person multiple times.

He said that there will certainly be conversations with Tomic this offseason, but of course it depends on whether he's content staying in Europe.

potential 7'2 euroleague MVP... i think from the FO point of view they want to get him as cheap as possible. But I think the fanbase needs to get educated so the season ticket holders and community need to push for it. some type of fansite petition or something would make sense.

Why would that make sense? Let the front office do their jobs. They're the ones who have been scouting him.

i really hope the FO doesn't listen or being influenced by fanbase desires when it comes to decisions on player personnel. because if they do, we might end up with kendall marshall as our PGOTF and Brandan Wright on a long term 7M per year deal, Giannis Adetokunbo as a lottery pick and Brandon Jennings on a max deal, among other things...

please i disagree here. all his games are available to everybody. this isnt some secret 18 year old in Greek a2. i don't think a fansite does anything to screw the FO. we are talking about an ian mahinmi size contract here.

This is a unique situation. We all see brandon every day. To the average season ticket holder this talented guy is playing on another planet. If they knew the Jazz were sitting on this type of asset and didn't offer him at least 4 million a year... they ought to know about it.

i don't think that fans of any NBA team know about 99% of the offers their team makes to other players. we only see the end results usually. for all we know, there were negotiations with him for a few years now that just didn't materialize to an official contract offer, for many different reasons. we see the end results, but contract negotiations usually goes on for months and well before a player's contract ends. like in harden's situation. we all saw the result of him being traded and know that he was given an hour to accept OKC's final offer, but those negotiations went on for months and he knew what's going on.

If the Jazz front office listened to the uninformed masses they would've drafted Jimmer over Burks (if given the choice) and possibly Jimmer over Kanter.

well i see it just bit different. you basically have a high level 1st round draft pick sitting here. and those guys get 4 or 5 million. if tomic doesn't get that kind of offer form the Jazz I want to know about it and i think the media should report it.

He is a 25 year old player with no NBA experience. He is at whatever level he will be at. He isn't getting $5M per year.

He's at a EuroLeague MVP level. I stand by the numbers I threw out.

Bargnani 10 million
McGee 10 million
Biedrins 9 million
Villanueva 8 million
Diop 7.3 million
Gooden 6.8 million
Hawes 6.5 million
Frye 6 million
Hayes 5.5 million
Ian Mahinmi 4 million

Gooden's 6.8 is still hilarious. One of the biggest "WTF???" contract moments in recent memory. The other guys, you could at least make a dicey argument about potential.

Bigs get paid in the league. Tomic is getting paid no matter where he plays in the world. That 4 million a year base number i threw out is legit. And if the FO doesn't offer him what he's worth... that's some interesting info right there.

Tomic is an excellent value @ 4 million. For a 4 year deal including the buyout 20 million sounds accurate.
