Smart play by Rudy. Deflect the distraction of a contract year and focus on what matters.

Pretty much. Hasn't been talked about much around the league but I think seeing Exum play is as exciting as seeing Embiid play.

I'm curious to see Exum for sure.

6. Utah Jazz
Rank Score
Players 5 65
Management 5 72
Money 5 72.5
Market 29 17.5
Draft 6 60
Overall: 62.4
The Jazz have generally fared well in the Future Power Rankings, in part because of Utah's savvy decision-making and patience. We think this is the season that patience starts to pay off and the Jazz move from rebuilding to contending.

The additions of veterans like George Hill and Joe Johnson this summer, combined with the ongoing development of their young players, give them great balance.

The Jazz have the talent, cap flexibility and draft picks to take another big leap in the next year or two as well.

No. 6 might seem high for a team that didn't make the playoffs last season, but we believe the Jazz will be one of the top four teams in the West as early as this spring.

Lot's of sloppy play leading to easy baskets for Portland. I hated the way Joe Johnson was playing.

Hood is playing noticeably different with the ball, throwing his body into into defenders. Mixed results so far.

Does anyone else have a problem with the NBA site? The live game pages don't seem to work.

So Exum looks like he can shoot the 3.

I'll tell you what, if this wasn't a preseason game I'd be pissed. Very reminiscent of how we played last year which is not a good thing.

Maybe I don't like new uni's as much as I thought I did. That gold stripe on front that turns to a white stripe on the back is driving me crazy.

Yup. That's what I'm taking away from this game.

Pretty much what I'm seeing as well. Same system with somewhat different (and better) personnel. And I hope we won't be using Exum like this (or like his first season)--we're just giving him an excuse to take a back seat on offense and hide behind the 3pt line living off others instead of creating for others.

Exum might be OK if he ever gets over his fear of shooting in the paint.

Exactly. My main takeaway. He could be Shawn Livingston so easily.

The effort level is what's getting to me. I suppose it's not bad for a preseason game, but these are the same things we saw all last year. Lazy passing, no transition defense, poor discipline, bad focus ect. There's a stark difference in how sharp these two teams are. It should be no surprise as to which team over achieved and which one under achieved last season. You practice how you play.

Keep in mind that this is this team's first game together and we've had massive roster turnover.

Exum should be starting over Hill but I guess it's better for his development to run the bench.

Mack is doing a remarkable Trey Burke impression.
