There are rumors in Jazz media that he was the guy DL and JZ tried to trade up for but they couldn't find a partner.

That’s unfortunate. He is so dynamic off the dribble and has a super versatile jumpshot. Can get it off at any time.

People scoffed at his shooting percentages, but when I looked at the degree of difficulty I could only be impressed.

Well unfortunately it looks like Zion is going to be out for at least the first few weeks of the season. I was really looking forward to watching him explode on the scene like Blake Griffin his rookie. The good news is that I think pelicans have the depth to overcome this injury with Melli likely stepping in as the starting 4 which should be a good thing for Favors. .

Yes I hope he is back soon. He was all set to bring an exciting, fresh new generational talent to the league.

To me it's shocking they've been unable to convince him to drop some weight. 280 on that frame is A TON of weight. If I were the Pels I will just tell him that I won't play him until he meets some criteria that their medical/training staff calculates is safe for him to play at. This is no joke. That's like 3 knee injuries in the span of what? 6 months? He's lucky they haven't been more serious.

Maybe they're afraid that if he loses weight, that one time he'll jump so high and never come back down.

Westbrook may be dealing with a finger injury for a while, George is out, Zion hurt... while I don't wish injury on players, we need to make noise early on. I think we have a real shot at the #1 seed this year if we are lucky again this year and don't experience a plethora of injuries like we did a couple of years ago.

He's actually listed at 285 lbs. :o I expressed a similar concern regarding Zion on page one of this thread. It seems like Zion's tremendous power, weight and athleticism that puts a massive force on his knees, ankles, etcetera, could simply be too much force on those non muscle parts of his body.

ESPN has a summary of win projections for each team out this morning, including average projections by sports reporters, ESPN BPI, 538 and Caesars Las Vegas. For Jazz, it's 52, 52, 51 and 53.5 wins respectively. If limiting win projections to just Caesars LasVegas, the Jazz would finish number two in the West behind Houston's 54 wins.

Many of the sports books for season wins are still open today for the teams that haven't played their first game yet. Anyone have a favorite over or under to share? I haven't spent much time thinking about it, but I like the Over on 46 wins for the Trailblazers at the William Hill sportsbook --- you're betting on Lillard and McCollum in their primes, especially on 29 year old superstar Damian Lillard, along with a very capable coach and decent surrounding roster. (Note: I have now officially jinxed and prevented the Trailblazers from winning 47 or more games. )

Boston fans think Kanter's defense might be OK, can't wait to watch that implode

This is what their guru Bill Simmons has been telling them since they signed him. Every single player Boston signs suddenly becomes world beater and every single player they get rid off suddenly reveals some previously unknown flaws.

to be fair, Stevens does get the most out of quite a few players...but Kanter just sucks

10/24/19

The Sacramento Kings say second-year forward Marvin Bagley III will miss 4-6 weeks with a nondisplaced fracture of his right thumb.

According to the team, Bagley suffered the injury in Wednesday's season-opening loss to the Suns. He started and played 28 minutes, scoring 14 points. An MRI determined the extent of the injury.

Bagley, the former Duke star, averaged 14.9 points and 7.6 rebounds last season. The second overall pick in the 2018 draft, he finished seventh in NBA Rookie of the Year voting.

Hate to see guys hurt, but we will be playing the Kings this Saturday night without Marvin Bagley lll in their lineup.

He'll miss two games against us. Not sure if that helps or hurts us. It remains to be seen if Bagley is a winning player or not.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the deal with the snake on the Sixers' court design?

There is almost zero change in the top seven ESPN power rankings after the first week of play. 76ers and Bucks switched places at two and three; that's it. Top seven rankings are Clips, 76ers, Bucks, Nuggets, Lakers, Rockets and Jazz.

ESPN comments on Jazz:
Mike Conley's first two games in a Jazz uniform couldn't have been much uglier, as he misfired on all but four of his 27 field goal attempts and had almost as many turnovers (six) as assists (eight). Not that anyone with the Jazz was worried about the point guard's fit in Utah at that point. Conley looked like himself in Saturday's blowout of the Kings, when he had 12 points and eight assists. The Jazz hoped that Conley's arrival would benefit Donovan Mitchell, and the early returns on that are positive, with the young star guard averaging an efficient 23.7 points (68.1 true shooting percentage) in the first week. -- MacMahon

Some big movers elsewhere in the rankings were Spurs jumping from 15 to 9, Hawks climbing from 23 to 16, Warriors falling from 10 to 17 and Nets dropping from 9 to 14.
