All these guys can play PF/C. I tend to agree with mark53 that this might be a precursor for a trade.

I thought Carey was waived?

“One of the terms of the offer sheet provides a unique twist: The first season of the contract is fully guaranteed and the two following become guaranteed for $15.7 million if Reed’s team advances to conference semi-finals in the 2023-24 season, sources said.”

Cute.

It would be even cuter if it specified Eastern conference semis, I guess that wouldn't fly with the League.
As a contracting specialist I have to admire the cheek and cleverness of this, but I doubt whoever in the Jazz back office came up with this will receive the Sam Hinkie Award for Executive Innovation.

Does getting Reed mean Olynyk will be traded?

This must mean the Jazz have a ton of confidence in Sexton being the starting PG.

I think it also signals the Jazz think they are a solid playoff team and not a young rebuilding team.

I see Olynyk being the backup pf and Reed the backup C until Hendricks gets Gleague seasoning and is ready to play increasing minutes later in the year or if Olynyk gets traded during the season.

Having another high energy defensive minded center on the team is not a bad thing despite the logjam. Olynyk is not the guy you want as your backup center providing rim protection. Jazz could actually put out a crazy defensive lineup.

Dunn, Och, Hendricks, Reed, Kessler and damn the spacing isn't beyond terrible. Also Reed should be able to be a switch big with any one of Markkanen, Collins, Hendricks even Olynyk. This is all assuming the Sixers don't match. Which I hope they don't.

Curious move might mean a trade is in the works.

If he's a one year deal, then why not just keep Jones who was making around $2M and was good when he played instead of paying $7M for another player who will play very few minutes?

He’s better, more upside. It’s not hurting the cap room. Sometimes as fans we think it’s out money

BTW, it is my understanding that if the Jazz were to sign Reed then it would mean the Clarkson contract wasn't structured in any special way (front-loaded then declining) since the Jazz were using their cap space on Reed instead of diverting it to front-loading Clarkson's deal. Which means we should expect Clarkson's deal to likely be $18.3M per season instead of something like 26M-14.5M-14.5M.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Nope, the Reed offer sheet was built on the Room MLE starting at $7.7M, which is now again available to the Jazz.

Matched. Cool. Moving on. Play Hendricks, and use cap space on primary ball-handler &/or lengthy, athletic wing.

Think Danny wanted to stick it to Philly. Sign or not sign he did.

Paul Reed just said that "That’s not a place that I had in mind, but business is business.", after the offer has been matched.

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/272500/Paul-Reed-Happy-Sixers-Matched-Offer-Sheet-From-Jazz

I don't know, but how low IQ a person has to be to say it? Looks like really low for me. Lack of respect, so say at least, but honestly, not a smart thing to say.

Happy he will not be in a Jazz uniform, hopefully ever.

Regards,
